Bub (English: Father) is an Indian film in Kashmiri language directed by Jyoti Sarup. It released in Jammu on 1 December 2001. It is only the third Kashmiri film, the preceding one was released 38 years before. The film won the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration at the 49th National Film Awards. The film is based on the Wandhama Massacre, where several Kashmiri Pandits were killed by militants before the Republic Day on 26 January and focuses on one such family that was massacred.

The story centers around a small town entrepreneur named Maniram who makes a major profit by cheating people and selling them tainted food. His business is run by his daughter-in-law Tejo, who is married to Maniram's mentally challenged younger son. When Maniram's elder son comes back into town to get married, things start to go awry. Vikram Madan (Shiney Ahuja) is a ground maintenance engineer at the Chandigarh Airport. His social life is limited to one friend, Rajeev, the security chief of the same airport. Vikram's daughter is traveling with her teacher for a debate contest to Amritsar from Delhi. That flight gets hijacked by a group of six terrorists working for a man named Rasheed (KK Raina) who has been captured by the Indian police. The flight is forced to land at the Chandigarh Airport. These terrorists demand the release of Rasheed from the Indian Government or they threaten to kill the hostages inside the aircraft. Now Vikram is faced with a dilemma of being the only man who can sneak inside the aircraft and try to save the life of his daughter Priya. Once he breaches into the aircraft with the help of air hostess Saira (Esha Deol), he starts plotting and planning and killing the terrorists one by one. Some innocent passengers become the victims of the terrorists and die. However somehow Vikram and Saira together saved the day.

The story is based in Benares and is about Pandit Chaturvedi (Pankaj Kapoor), a highly revered and learned Brahmin priest. A baby is abandoned by a woman and brought to his house by his daughter. He agrees to adopt the child due to requests from his wife (Supriya Pathak). Life takes a turn when the boy's mother returns: The family finds out that the boy is Muslim after they have become attached to him. The family gives back the boy to his mother. Chaturvedi engulfs himself in purification processes to cleanse his body, mind, and soul due to contact with a Muslim soul. By the time Chaturvedi thinks he is fully purified, the child reappears — seeking refuge, due to Hindu-Muslim riots. This is when Chaturvedi realizes that the true religion is humanity.

Jabbar Bahkshi(Danny Dengzongpa) is the eldest son in the Bahkshi household in modern-day Bombay, India, and rules the entire family with an iron, Islamic hand. He finds out his sister, Sabina(Sonali Bendre), is having an affair with Iqbal, and is angered because Sabina is not permitted to have an affair. Sabina and Iqbal elope and get married, and decide to stay away from the Bahkshi family. Jabbar hunts them down and kills Iqbal with a sword. Shocked at this brutality at the hands of her brother, Sabina stabs herself with the same sword and dies instantly. Jabbar is arrested by the Bombay Police, and is sentenced to 12 years in prison. His mother is devastated at Sabina's death and decides never to forgive him. After 12 years, Jabbar returns home and finds that Islamic values and rules are not being observed, and quickly re-asserts his authority, while his mother refuses to have to do anything with him. Jabbar meets his niece, Neelima, and is shocked to find her the very image of Sabina. He finds out that Neelima is having an affair with a young man, but Neelima, out of fear, denies this. She is indeed having an affair with young Sameer Roshan(Akshaye Khanna), and both are in love with each other. When they find out what happened to her aunt, they decide to run away from Bombay and Jabbar. When Jabbar comes to know this he is angered, and his anger turns to blind rage when he finds out that Sameer is an Hindu, and he swears to kill them both. The news gets out of a Hindu boy and a Muslim girl eloping, and spreads like wildfire, arousing old flames, and creating a growing rift between the Hindus and the Muslims. Extreme elements on both the Hindu and the Muslim sides decide to get involved, and Jabbar decides that he will hunt them and kill them, and if necessary let history repeat itself.

Kashi (Sunny Deol) is a kind-hearted wrestler and the dutiful son of Shambhu Nath (Amrish Puri) living in Banaras. Shambhu Nath who was a freedom fighter awarded with Tambra Patra, is an honourable and respectable man in town. Katya and his brothers become enemy with Kashi when he beats up their goons when they were beating up Malti. Shambhu Nath is later diagnosed with throat cancer and has only a few days to live.
