Synopsis

L'agent du FBI Douglas Ripper est contacté par le shérif de Bornsville, qui lui annonce le vol du cercueil de Pamela Rose. Ripper pense alors pouvoir ainsi reprendre contact avec son ancien coéquipier Richard Bullit, à la retraite et contre lequel il s'était brouillé suite à une histoire de femme (la petite amie de Bullit quitte celui-ci pour Ripper).

2005 : to convince French people on the interest of space research and its budget, a contest is organised : a scrach game with millions of scratchcards, where the two winners will receive their ticket for space. They must leave for the French orbital station (which only exists for the film and does not exist in reality) with two professional astronauts and a scientist. The adventure will not happen like expected. One of the contestants, who has cheated to obtain the ticket, appears to be once in space, a dangerous madman seeking for revenge.

When bad boy police officer Ousmane is involved in a car accident, he is mistaken for the assailant by his fellow police officers. The next day, the wife of a business mogul turns up nearby Ousmane's housing project. Ousmane draws connections between the two crimes and believes he is able to solve both crimes. In order to be heard by fellow police officers, Ousmane is forced to team up with visiting Parisian investigator Francois Monge, who has much more departmental clout. Despite coming from and working in very different neighborhoods, the pair find common ground through their policing style, including manhandling suspects and kicking butt.

Michel Boudriau et Kim Houang, deux lieutenants de police, sont amis depuis leur enfance. Michel, naïf et très croyant, est marié et a six enfants. Kim qui a été adopté puis abandonné par des restaurateurs vietnamiens est célibataire et très avare. Les policiers passent des tests d'aptitude. Dans le même temps, en région parisienne se produit une série d’attentats à l’explosif revendiquant une somme de 15 millions d’euros. Le ministre de l’Intérieur enjoint à la directrice de la police Aude Letellier de charger de cette affaire les policiers les mieux notés aux tests d'aptitude : Michel et Kim sont désignés. En rencontrant Aude Letellier, Kim s'éprend de sa secrétaire Angela, qu’il invite aussitôt. Pour conduire Angela, le très économe Kim emprunte une voiture à la police. Il ignore qu’une bombe était placée dans cette voiture en vue d’un prochain attentat. La voiture explose devant le cabinet de la directrice de la police.

Bounty hunter Jack Walsh (De Niro) is enlisted by bail bondsman Eddie Moscone (Pantoliano) to bring accountant Jonathan "The Duke" Mardukas (Grodin) back to L.A. The accountant had embezzled $15 million from Chicago mob boss Jimmy Serrano (Farina) before skipping the $450,000 bail Moscone has posted for him. Walsh must bring Mardukas back within five days, or Moscone defaults. Moscone says the job is easy, a "midnight run", but Walsh demands $100,000. Walsh is then approached by FBI Agent Alonzo Mosely (Kotto), who wants Mardukas to be a witness against Serrano and orders Walsh to keep away from Mardukas, but Walsh takes no notice and instead steals Mosely's ID, which he uses to pass himself off as an FBI agent along his journey. Serrano’s henchmen Tony (Richard Foronjy) and Joey (Miranda) offer Walsh $1 million to turn Mardukas over to them, but he turns them down.
