Butterfly Crush is a 2010 film, written and directed by New Zealand filmmaker Alan Clay. It was adapted from his novel Dance Sisters. The story is about an Australian female song and dance duo whose chance at success is jeopardized when one of them gets involved with a cult group.

Synopsis

Moana and Eva are the song and dance duo "Butterfly Crush". During a performance at Circular Quay in Sydney, a riot engulfs their show. In the midst of the riot, Moana awakens, to discover that the performance and riot was just a virtual dream. She is in the building of the Dreamguides, a cult operating in the Kings Cross neighborhood of Sydney. Eva has recently become involved with the Dreamguides.

Mabel Stanley (Kristy McNichol) is an introverted teenage girl yearning for popularity in a seaside community in Australia. In this fantasy sequence, the swordplay instructor is now named Frederic, a young apprentice of the Pirates of Penzance, celebrating his 21st birthday on a pirate vessel. Frederic refuses an invitation from the Pirate King (Ted Hamilton), his adoptive father, to become a full pirate, as his birth parents were murdered by their contemporaries. Frederic swears to avenge their deaths and is forced off of the ship on a small boat.

Stranded by a storm in the Caspian Sea, sailor Yussuf and mechanic Alyosha cling to the remains of their ship for survival. On their third day adrift, the castaways are rescued by fishermen. She is delighted to learn of Alyosha's profession, as all of the island's mechanics have left in service to the Pacific Fleet. In their absence, Mariya had feared that the collective's fishing operations would have been impeded. Alyosha promises to stay for the entire season, and going off to inspect a motor boat together, the two engage in flirtatious behavior. However, Yussuf soon joins up with the pair and grows jealous.
