À la fête de Lesaca, petit village du Pays Basque espagnol, se produisent le chanteur Vincent Etchebar et son fidèle ami trompettiste Bilou. L'impresario parisien Cartoni remarque Vincent et souhaite l'engager. Au même moment, le ténor Miguel Morano, refuse de partir pour le Mexique avec la vedette féminine Eva Marchal, de peur de retrouver Tornada, une furie à qui il a autrefois promis le mariage. Alors que Vincent et Bilou sont montés à Paris, Cartoni les recherche désespérément. Vincent sosie de Morano, remplacera sa vedette dans le rôle titre de l'opérette Le Chanteur de Mexico, sans se douter qu'il existe un vrai Miguel Morano. Mais les deux compères restent introuvables. Ils sont devenus peintres en bâtiment sur la Tour Eiffel, et logent dans le même immeuble que Cricri, une pétillante jeune fille. Grâce à un concours radiophonique, auquel il s'est inscrit sur l'insistance de Cricri, Cartoni l'entend et le convoque. Vincent est engagé et est présenté à sa partenaire. Eva s'éprend de lui et le fait répéter en privé chez elle. Quant à Vincent, entre elle et Cricri, son cœur balance. L'équipe part pour le Mexique. Dès son arrivée à Acapulco, Vincent, sous le pseudonyme de Miguel Morano, est repéré par Tornada qui réussit à le faire enlever. Mais Bilou, Cricri et Cartoni arrivent à temps pour expliquer la méprise. Alors que Cricri et Vincent s'avouent leur amour et que Bilou tente de réconforter Tornada, la tournée se termine dans la capitale Mexico.

Archana (Sridevi) plays the role of popular singer, and Johnny (Rajinikanth) is her ardent fan. Johnny is a con-man who does petty-thefts (only on the greedy ones) to close the loan taken by his father. Johnny never misses the concerts of Archana and this is noticed by Archana too. A tender love develops between the two, but Johnny is guarded in accepting the love of Archana due to his not-so-clean background. But one day Johnny accepts the love of Archana when she proposes to him. Meanwhile, the other character of Rajini, a barber lives a lonely life with his assortment of pet animals. He falls for Deepa another loner and they both plan to marry. The barber Rajini notices his lover's infidelity and kills her in rage. Knowing about his look alike Johnny and knowing that he is wanted by the police, he tries to pass on the murder charge to him. Both of them are chased by police, Johnny hides in a forest, barber Rajini tries to pass of as Johnny by taking refuge in Archanas house. Archana gets hurt by the curt behavior of barber Rajini (in the guise of Johnny) and she is confused on the same. Finally, the barber Rajini realises his folly and unites the lovers by getting caught in the police, taking responsibility of Johnny's crimes included.

A kidnapping goes down in 1934 Kansas City. Sisters Penny and Jane Lowe are arrested for hitchhiking and skinny dipping and are sentenced to work on a rural Texas farm for a corrupt agricultural magnate named Russ Tropp. The judge who sentenced the sisters to the farm is dating Tropp and is unaware of the treatment of the prisoners, until her son is hired to work at the farm and uncovers that a scam had been going on. Through dating the judge, Tropp ensures that all delinquents and rule breakers are ordered to work off their sentence at his farm therefore giving him a stable amount of cheap labor, allowing him to undercut all competition he faces. The judge's son also falls in love with Jane, while Penny, who performs four songs in the film, dreams of making it big in show business.
