The film was developed at the Screenwriters' Lab organized by National Film Development Corporation of India in collaboration with Locarno Film Festival and the ScriptStation of Berlinale Talent Campus, a part of Berlin International Film Festival. The Film won Golden Gateway of India Award for Best Film (India Gold 2014) at the 16th Mumbai Film Festival.
The film is set to have a worldwide release on January 8, 2016.
Synopsis
A fourteen-year-old Dalit boy (Soham Maitra) is growing up in an unnamed corner of India. His dream is to go to a town school like his elder brother (Riddhi Sen) and his reality is to look after the pig that his family owns. His only escape is to sit atop a Jamun tree and adore his beloved (Ena Saha) passing by on her scooter. His unspoken love is as true as his mother’s helplessness who cleans the cowsheds of the local strongman’s mansion, with whom she also has a secret liaison. When the boy’s elder brother comes on a vacation to the village, he soon finds out about his younger brother’s infatuation. The learned elder brother makes him realize the need to express his love and helps him write a love letter.Actors

La tradition a toujours été respectée dans ce petit village du Gujarat, surtout par les femmes qui ne remettent pas en cause l'organisation patriarcale, voire franchement phallocrate, de cette société rurale. Rani, jeune veuve, négocie, avec son amie Lajjo, le mariage de son fils Gulab avec une jeune adolescente, Janaki. L'affaire est conclue. Quand les deux femmes reviennent à leur village, un conseil est réuni pour décider l'avenir d'une jeune fille qui fuit sa belle-famille parce que son mari la délaisse et que les autres hommes de la belle-famille abusent d'elle. Mais les anciens ne sauraient tolérer une telle infamie : il renvoie la jeune fille à son sort. Rani tente vainement, mais mollement de protester. Rani, Lajjo, questionnées, aiguillonnées par leur amie Bijli, prostituée et danseuse d'une sorte de cabaret, commencent à remettre en cause cet ordre moral qui interdit l'éducation et l'indépendance aux femmes. Le film se termine par la crémation symbolique du démon Rāvaṇa lors de la nuit de Dussehra commémorant la libération de Sītā par son époux Rāma, nuit au cours de laquelle périt par le feu Manoj, le mari alcoolique et violent de Lajjo. Puis les trois femmes partent sur le triporteur bariolé du cabaret, libres et sans but.

The burden to earn a living for his family and preserve his family tradition of ritual Ganesha dancing is humongous. His two roles, as a bread winner for his two kids, a wife and an ailing father and as the magnificent elephant god Ganesha, is so diverse that his journey from factory to village looks almost like time travel and his existence schizophrenic! Ganesha, the dancer lives in the perpetual fear of the day when he will have to make a choice between livelihood and art/tradition.

The film starts with a girl (Urmila Mahanta) who is being admitted to a hospital after she has been attacked and her face burnt with acid. The police inspector (Kharaj Mukherjee) is being mobbed by the media inquiring about the girl. The screen then zooms as if the girl's eyes/eyelids is the camera which is opening and closing. The doctors are continuously trying to bring her back to consciousness. The inspector (Kharaj Mukherjee) is seen asking the girl whether she has seen or remember who has attacked her with acid. The girl falls back to unconsciousness again while the doctor is seen requesting the police to continue his interrogation after she becomes more stable. Police comes out of the room and sees the girl's mother Soma Chakraborty crying her heart out. The inspector asks her whether she knows or is aware of who might have done a heinous crime like this. She sobs and says her daughter is a very good girl, she has no such flings and she cannot understand who might have done this. Upon further interrogation, the mother says that there is a certain guy, tall, thin and dark complexioned who is always stalking her daughter. The inspector asks his subordinates to find that guy.
