Conrack is a 1974 film based on the 1972 autobiographical book The Water Is Wide by Pat Conroy, directed by Martin Ritt and starring Jon Voight in the title role, alongside Paul Winfield, Madge Sinclair, Hume Cronyn and Antonio Fargas. The film was released by 20th Century Fox on March 27, 1974.
Synopsis
The story follows a young teacher, Pat Conroy (played by Jon Voight), in 1969 assigned to isolated "Yamacraw Island" off the coast of South Carolina and populated mostly by poor black families. He finds out that the children as well as the adults have been isolated from the rest of the world and speak a dialect called Gullah, with "Conrack" of the novel's title being the best they can do to pronounce his last name. The school has only two rooms for all grades combined, with the Principal (Madge Sinclair) teaching grades one through four and Conroy teaching the higher grades. Conroy discovers that the students aren't taught much and will have little hope of making a life in the larger world.Actors

The Morgans (Cicely Tyson, Paul Winfield, Kevin Hooks), a loving and strong family of black sharecroppers in Louisiana in 1933 right in the middle of the Great Depression, face a serious family crisis when the husband and father, Nathan Lee Morgan, is convicted of a petty crime and sent to a prison camp. The film revolves around the relationship between two high school students, Yoo Shi-eun (Lee Young-jin) and Min Hyo-shin (Park Ye-jin). As the two girls become romantically involved, their taboo friendship causes them to be marginalized by the other students. Still mystified by his son's death, the father (Jo Sung-ha) of high school student Ki-tae (Lee Je-hoon) tries to track down his two best friends, classmates Hee-joon (Park Jung-min) and Dong-yoon (Seo Jun-young), to try to find an explanation. Through Ki-tae's classmate Jae-ho, the father meets Hee-joon, who says he cannot help as he moved schools "weeks before what happened to Ki-tae." Afterwards, Hee-joon berates Jae-ho for giving his phone number to Ki-tae's father but Jae-ho tells him that Ki-tae "went crazy" after he moved away. Hee-joon manages to trace Dong-yoon and urges him to contact Ki-tae's father and provide some answers. In parallel, flashbacks to the time gradually reveal what really happened, starting with Ki-tae's needling and bullying of Hee-joon and the latter's response.

Le film relate l'histoire de Tommy, un enfant de 10 ans bien connu des services sociaux québécois. Bruno fait la connaissance de sa professeure principale qui le prend sous son aile. Jean-Roger admire son père, Marcel, un ancien militaire devenu truand. Parallèlement à cela, Jean-Roger est jaloux de son frère Thierry et du couple qu'il forme avec une journaliste. La jeune femme est violée par Jean-Roger et sa bande. Thierry intervient, mais il est pourchassé par la bande. Le père le sauve, muni d'un fusil. Il tue trois des participants au tabassage de Thierry. Jean-Roger, qui a un pistolet, riposte et tue, sans vraiment le vouloir, son père... et, accessoirement, le serin de Bruno qui s'était échappé de l'appartement. Bruno trouve le serin mort et le pistolet que Jean-Roger, ivre, a abandonné ; désespéré de la mort de son seul vrai ami, Bruno retourne l'arme contre lui et se suicide. Jean-Roger finit en prison à Fleury-Mérogis, d'où il écrira une lettre à son ex-professeure principale.
