Convention City is a 1933 American Pre-Code sex comedy film directed by Archie Mayo, and starring Joan Blondell, Guy Kibbee, Dick Powell, Mary Astor and Adolphe Menjou. The film was produced by Henry Blanke and First National Pictures and distributed by Warner Bros.

Due to its racy content, Convention City was banned after the Motion Picture Production Code (18+) was enacted in 1934. Prints were subsequently ordered to be destroyed by studio head Jack L. Warner. The film is now considered lost and has become one of the more coveted lost films because of its reported racy content.

Synopsis

The plot revolves around the convention of the Honeywell Rubber Company in Atlantic City. Throughout the film, the employees of Honeywell Rubber are mainly concerned with drinking and sex. President J.B. Honeywell (Grant Mitchell) is to choose a new company salesmanager. T.R. Kent (Adolphe Menjou) and George Ellerbe (Guy Kibbee) are two salesmen who both want the job. However, they both get into trouble: T.R. is discredited when jealous saleswoman Arlene Dale (Mary Astor) interferes with his attempted seduction of J.B.'s daughter and George attempts to seduce Nancy Lorraine (Joan Blondell). The position of sales manager is bestowed upon a drunken employee as a bribe after he catches J.B. about to visit "Daisy La Rue, Exterminator".

Wonder Bar is set in a Parisian nightclub, with the stars playing the ‘regulars’ at the club. The movie revolves around two main story points, a romance and a more serious conflict with death, and several minor plots. All of the stories are enlivened from time to time by extravagant musical numbers. The more serious story revolves around Captain Von Ferring (Robert Barrat), a German military officer. Ferring has gambled on the stock market and lost, now broke after dozens of failed investments, he is at the Wonder Bar to try and pull a one night stand before killing himself the following day. Felix est un écrivain raté qui habite un modeste hôtel meublé. Doris, sa voisine, travaille dans le milieu du sexe, elle a tourné dans un film X, fait la gogo danseuse, et se prostitue. Felix qui ignore ses activités l'aperçoit dans une tenue équivoque par sa fenêtre, prend ses jumelles, et se rend compte que de l'argent est échangé. Il la dénonce auprès du logeur qui la flanque de suite à la porte. Doris ne s'en laisse pas compter et parvient à pénétrer et à s'incruster chez Felix en exigeant qu'il l'héberge pour la nuit. Le ton finira par monter et une violente dispute attirera tout le voisinage. Le logeur intervient et met Felix à la porte. Felix et Doris réussissent à se faire héberger chez un ami. S'ensuivra un jeu de chat et de la souris entre eux deux, leurs univers très différents ne cesseront de s'opposer parfois très violemment, mais ils finiront par se rapprocher l'un de l'autre. À la fin, ils décident de faire comme s'ils venaient seulement de se rencontrer et partent ensemble.
