Synopsis
Antoine est couchettiste sur le Paris-Venise. Payé au smic, il est chargé de collecter les billets et les passeports des voyageurs de son wagon-couchettes de seconde classe. Comme il n’a pas vraiment la vocation, il expédie rapidement les affaires courantes pour s’enfermer dans sa cabine et rêver d’aventures en lisant Jack London. Mais cette fois-ci, un voyageur étrange a jeté son dévolu sur lui et ne le lâche plus. Jean-Bernard Bonassieu fuit la France pour échapper à de graves ennuis. Mais ce qui l’attend n’est guère plus engageant. Pour s’arracher aux griffes de Brandeburg, un puissant trafiquant d’organes humains, il oblige Antoine à le cacher et à ruser avec les contrôleurs et les douaniers de tous poils qui ne cessent de monter et de descendre de ce train international. Cette première irrégularité en entraîne d’autres et des rapports biscornus et chaotiques s’établissent entre Antoine et Jean-Bernard. En fait le fuyard est malade, une maladie inconnue qui intéresse les savants et surtout les laboratoires du monde entier, à la recherche de brevets pour créer des vaccins nouveaux. Bonassieu représente donc un trésor vivant que chacun cherche à s’approprier. Chaque arrêt du train est l’occasion de surprises et de dangers insoupçonnés. Lorsqu’au petit matin ils arrivent à Venise, Brandeburg est sur le quai, bien résolu mettre la main sur le malade. Aidé par son copain Richard, couchettiste du wagon voisin, Antoine parvient à faire sortir Bonassieu du train à l’insu du trafiquant et de sa bande. Mais Venise n’est pas sûre et à Paris, des menaces planent sur la femme et les enfants de Bonassieu. Il doit donc renoncer à sa fuite et rentrer au plus vite. Après une journée enfermé dans un local sans fenêtre, il faut repartir. Le voyage de retour sera encore plus mouvementé parce que des rivaux de Brandeburg se mettent de la partie... ... et si le film est drôle, les personnages, eux, ne rigolent pas.Actors

In 1854, Edward Pierce (Sean Connery), to all appearances a charismatic and well-established member of London's high society, is secretly an opportunistic and cynical master thief. He plans to steal a shipment of gold (sent monthly to finance the Crimean War) travelling from London to Folkestone. The bank has taken strict precautions, including locking the gold in two heavy Chubb safes, each of which has two locks, requiring a total of four keys to open them. When a test robbery (using a hired stooge to test the security measures) goes awry, Pierce recruits his old acquaintance Robert Agar (Donald Sutherland), a pickpocket and screwsman. Pierce's mistress Miriam (Lesley-Anne Down), a beautiful actress, and his driver Barlow (George Downing) join the plot, and the guard to the safe car, Burgess (Michael Elphick), is also bribed into participation. Pierce plans the robbery in exquisite detail, and procures information on the security measures and locations of the keys. The executives of the bank who store the gold and arrange its transport, Mr. Henry Fowler and Mr. Edgar Trent, each possess a key; the other two are locked in a cabinet at the offices of the South Eastern Railway at the London Bridge train station. The keys are not to be stolen, but wax impressions are to be made of them in order to hide the robbers' intentions.

The movie starts off with a man, named Schlomo (Lionel Abelanski), running crazily through a forest, with his voice playing in the background, saying that he has seen the horror of the Nazis in a nearby town, and he must tell the others. Once he gets into town, he informs the rabbi, and together they run through the town and once they have got enough people together, they hold a town meeting. At first, many of the men do not believe the horrors they are being told, and many criticize Schlomo, for he is the town lunatic, and who could possibly believe him? But the rabbi believes him, and then they try to tackle the problem of the coming terrors. Amidst the pondering and the arguing, Schlomo suggests that they build a train, so they can escape by deporting themselves. Some of their members pretend to be Nazis in order to ostensibly transport them to a concentration camp, when in reality, they are going to Palestine via Russia. Thus the Train of Life is born.

Rahul Mithaiwala (Shahrukh Khan) is a forty-year-old bachelor living in Mumbai. His parents died in a car accident when he was eight years old, so his grandparents raised him. She asks Rahul to take the ashes to Rameswaram and disperse them. While he accepts her request, Rahul and his friends plan to dump the ashes at Goa but his grandmother wants to see him off, forcing Rahul to travel by train. He books a single ticket on the Chennai Express, planning to quickly exit and meet his friends along the way. However, as he tries to leave the train, he notices a young woman running to board it. He helps her and then four large men board the moving train, missing his chance to debark.

Milan (Hallyday) arrives in a small town by train at the start of the week. The hotel is closed, but he finds accommodation via a chance meeting with a retired French teacher, Manesquier (Rochefort). The film tells the story of the developing relationship between these apparent opposites, though looming in the background are two unavoidable events that each is expecting to take place on the Saturday - Manesquier is to undergo a major operation, and Milan (though he keeps this secret at first) is to lead a bank robbery.
