Synopsis

Lorsque Renée Browning est accusée à tort d'avoir une aventure avec Tony Salviatti, un directeur de cirque, son mari Horatio obtient le divorce et la garde de leur jeune fils Stephen. Renée accepte un travail comme diseuse de bonne aventure dans le cirque, et elle devient rapidement alcoolique.

From Turner Classic Movies: "The downtrodden Lester family lives in rural Georgia alongside the old tobacco road, on once-prosperous farm land which is now fallow. The Lesters are constantly on the verge of starvation. One afternoon they are visited by Lov Bensey (Bond), who is married to Jeeter and Ada's daughter Pearl (who never appears in the film), the family attacks him and steals his bag of turnips.
