It all started exactly 13 years ago, when Mary Graves' older sister was murdered on Halloween prom night by a power-mowing maniac. Poor Mary...since then she has experienced horror, sexual frustration, even psychoanalysis, but she still sees little lawnmowers everywhere. But tonight will be different. Tonight, at the new Halloween Prom, all the questions of the past 13 years will be answered as the pumpkin headed killer has returned. But hot on their trail is an obsessed cop (Joe Don Baker) who won't allow history to repeat itself.

Stan reminds his wife that he had to be hard on Billy because he does not want their son to be reading such "crap". As Billy sits upstairs cursing his father with hopes of him rotting in Hell, he hears a sound at the window, which turns out to be a ghostly apparition in the form of The Creep from the comic book, beckoning him to come closer.![Just Before Dawn](/imagesen/small/103223.jpg)

A mysterious black freighter sails through the night, apparently deserted. Detecting a cruise ship close by, the ship alters course as disembodied voices announce in German, "Battle Stations! Enemy in sight!" Aboard the cruise ship, the prickly Captain Ashland is making his final voyage, attended by his replacement, Captain Trevor Marshall, who has brought along his family. The freighter heads right for them, blasting its horn. Despite Ashland's best efforts, the charging freighter collides with the cruise ship, sinking it. (Some of the sinking scenes were taken from the 1960 film The Last Voyage and darkened to match the nightly effect.) The next morning, a handful of survivors—Marshall, his wife Margaret (Howes), and their children Robin and Ben; a young officer named Nick and his love interest Lori; the ship's comic Jackie; and a passenger, Mrs. Morgan—are adrift on a large piece of wreckage. Ashland surfaces nearby and he's brought aboard, barely conscious. Later, the survivors come upon the black freighter, unaware it's the ship that attacked them. Finding a boarding ladder slung from the stern, they climb aboard, but not before the ladder plunges into the sea as the officers try to climb it with the injured Ashland. When all are finally aboard, Jackie tries to rally the survivors with humor, but a cable seizes him by the ankle, and he is swung outboard by one of the ship's cranes, which lowers him into the water before cutting him loose, to be swept astern and lost.![The Dead Matter](/static/pasdimage.jpg)

Jessica CameronGretchen (Sean Serino), a young woman, becomes desperate to contact her brother after his passing. She discovers an amulet that allows her to control the dead—which she uses to try and contact him. The amulet also allows results in the calling forth of a small army of zombies, comedically called "Post-Mortem Americans" in the film. This amulet is a sought after relic, pursued by two feuding vampires who have been at odds for millennia: Vellich (Andrew Divoff) and Sebed (Tom Savini). After encountering the vampires, Gretchen and her friends are joined by the vampire-hunter McCallister (Jason Carter), who had originally stolen the amulet from Vellich. McCallister helps Gretchen and her friends combat the villains, and the film ends with a final showdown between the protagonists and the vampires. The film was called a "vampire-zombie hybrid movie" by the Columbus Dispatch.
