Distant Thunder (Bengali: অশনি সংকেত; translit. Oshoni Shongket) is a 1973 Bengali film by the renowned Indian director Satyajit Ray, based on the novel by the same name by Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay.
Unlike most of Ray's earlier films, Distant Thunder was filmed in colour. It stars Soumitra Chatterjee, who headlined numerous Ray films, and the Bangladeshi actress Bobita in her only prominent international role. Today the film features in "The New York Times Guide to the Best 1,000 Movies Ever Made". It marked the debut of the theatre star Mrityunjay Sil.

The film begins with a rich kid (Ravi Kiran) shown to be playing with his toys and enjoying the bottled soft drink. While playing, he overhears a sound and curiously overlooks the window to see a slum kid playing a flute. In order to show his toys, rich kid takes out his toy trumpet to make loud sound. Street kid then goes back to his hut and starts playing a small drum to which rich kid shows his battery-powered drum. When street kid comes out home-made mask and bow and arrow, rich kid wears various masks including one of a native villager and cowboy. Disappointed street kid returns to his hut and rich kid also goes back to play with his toys.

The film tells the story of a lonely housewife, known as Charu (Madhabi Mukherjee), who lives a wealthy, secluded and idle life in 1870's Calcutta. He abruptly leaves, and after Charu hysterically submits to her disappointment in the presence of Bhupati, there is nothing left but for the forsaken woman and her humiliated husband to forge a contrived reconciliation.
