Add to a movie listDon Quixote (Russian: Дон Кихот, translit. Don Kikhot) is a 1957 Soviet drama film directed by Grigori Kozintsev. It is based on Evgeny Shvartz's stage adaptation of Miguel de Cervantes's novel of the same name. It was entered into the 1957 Cannes Film Festival. It opened in the United States in 1961, beginning its U.S. run on January 20.
The film was exhibited in the mid-1960s by Australian University film clubs receiving the productions of Sovexportfilm. It was the first film version of Don Quixote to be filmed in both widescreen and color.
Synopsis
Alfonso Quijano, un fier hidalgo, a lu tellement de livres de chevalerie qu'il finit par se prendre pour Don Quichotte de la Mancha. Accompagné par son fidèle ami et écuyer Sancho Panza, le señor Quijano parcourt la campagne de son pays à cheval à la recherche d'actions héroïques à effectuer. Au cours de leur périple, ils sauvent par hasard une belle jeune femme, la gente demoiselle Altisidora. Celle-ci, amusée par ces deux étranges personnages, les invitent à la cour. Plus tard, Don Quichotte va libérer des prisonniers et se battre contre des moulins qu'il croît être des créatures magiques.Actors

La tragédie de William Shakespeare. Sur les remparts d'Elseneur, Hamlet voit apparaître le spectre de son père, ex roi du Danemark, qui lui révèle qu'il a été empoisonné pendant son sommeil par son frère Claudius avec la complicité de son épouse, la reine Gertrude. Le régicide lui a donc ravi sa femme, le trône et la vie. Afin de le venger, le jeune prince simule la folie et délaisse sa fiancée Ophélie. Au cours d'une explication avec sa mère, Hamlet croyant tuer l'usurpateur poignarde le chambellan Polonius. Sa fille, Ophélie devient folle et se suicide en se jetant dans une rivière. Laertes voulant venger son père provoque Hamlet en duel. Claudius pour être sûr de l'élimination de son neveu fournit une épée dont l'extrémité a trempé dans le poison au frère d'Ophélie. Au cours du combat les fleurets changent de main et Hamlet, bien que blessé, atteint Laertes, qui à l'agonie lui explique le plan machiavélique de son beau-père. Hamlet assassine Claudius tandis que sa mère meurt en buvant le breuvage empoisonné qui était réservé à son fils.

Cervantes and his manservant have been imprisoned by the Spanish Inquisition, and a manuscript by Cervantes is seized by his fellow inmates, who subject him to a mock trial in order to determine whether the manuscript should be returned. Cervantes' defense is in the form of a play, in which Cervantes takes the role of Alonso Quijana, an old gentleman who has lost his mind and now believes that he should go forth as a knight-errant. Quijano renames himself Don Quixote de La Mancha, and sets out to find adventures with his "squire", Sancho Panza.

The film, like the play, focuses on Rosencrantz and Guildenstern and their actions (or lack thereof) within the play of Hamlet. The film begins as they travel on horseback to Elsinore, contemplating fate, memory and language. Rosencrantz finds and continually flips a coin which always comes up heads, causing Guildenstern to conclude that something is wrong with reality. They meet a travelling troupe of tragedians on the way, and during their conversation with the lead Player, they are mysteriously transported into the action of Hamlet at Elsinore. They wander around the castle, trying to catch up to the action and understand what is going on by listening to other parts of the play. They are asked by the Danish royal couple to stay awhile in order to help find out the cause of, and hopefully cure, Prince Hamlet's gloomy state. They spend their time outside the scenes in Hamlet trying to figure out what is wrong with the prince and what is required of them.
