It sometimes confused with the 1937 film Old Louisiana also made by Crescent and starring Keene, which was originally known by this title.
The film's sets were designed by the art director Frank Dexter.

The plot is a variation on the standard B-Western "Land Grab" plot: Gold has been discovered in the area and gambler Jim Rodney intends to make sole claim to it by pushing the rightful owners off the land and taking it for himself. To do so he has his henchmen kill an Indian woman, provoking attacks from her tribe. This brings Buffalo Bill and the United States Cavalry into the town. Buffalo Bill proceeds to defeat Rodney and his schemes.

At the beginning of the film, Bill Ralston arrests a bad cowboy named Deadwood and takes him to Judge Williams. Ralston returns to his girl, Sally Dixon, before she is shot in the chest 8 times by Brant, a goon of Deadwood's, and Poe Daggett, an old enemy of Ralston. Ralston shoots Daggett in the knee, and the two run away into the saloon. He sees all of his friends including Sheriff Fin Elder at the Saloon, and they sing him a song. Then Daggett comes behind the Sheriff and tries to kill him, but Poe's brother, Walt, stops him from doing it. Everyone gets into a big fight, and in the end, the only survivors are Bill Ralston and Sheriff Fin Elder.

Prospector Tom Grant discovers found a rich gold vein up South. His findings however, soon attract landowner Bart Eaton. Tom's sister Mary heads for the gold fields with Eaton and his men following. Eaton teams up with Ace Daggett who plans to doublecross him and get the gold for himself. They then frame Tom for murder and then try to get him to sign over his claim. The scout Tex Houston is on hand, escaping the attempts on his life, saving Mary from various perils, and trying to bring in the real killer and clear Tom...
