Orazi e Curiazi (English title: Duel of Champions) is a 1961 film about the Roman legend of the Horatii, triplet brothers from Rome who fought a duel against the Curiatii, triplet brothers from Alba Longa in order to determine the outcome of a war between their two nations.

This film was directed by Ferdinando Baldi and Terence Young. The screenplay was written by Ennio De Concini, Carlo Lizzani, Giuliano Montaldo and Luciano Vincenzoni.

Synopsis

Ana, la princesse d'Éboli, porte un cache-œil noir car, durant sa jeunesse et par accident elle est devenue borgne, lors d'un duel en défendant le roi Philippe II. Le roi fait appel à un roturier, Antonio Pérez, afin que celui-ci devienne le premier secrétaire en titre du monarque. Philippe II attend qu'Ana et Antonio deviennent amants pour créer un scandale à la Cour, maintenant des manigances permanentes au Palais Royal. Antonio est accusé du meurtre d'un secrétaire de Juan d'Autriche et est emprisonné. Ana se résiste à partir de Madrid et elle est également emprisonnée. Après un certain temps passé en détention, elle est enfermée dans son palais et surveillée en permanence. Cependant Antonio s'échappe et essaye de trouver la princesse afin de la convaincre de partir du pays avec son fils.

Steve MacKendrick (Alan Ladd), nicknamed "Canada" because that is where he claims he is from, volunteers in 1940 for the British Army's paratroop school. He obviously has a good deal more background and leadership skills than he lets on. Canada tries to become better acquainted with a pretty parachute rigger named Penny Gardner (Susan Stephen). She is initially put off by his attitude, but they eventually start dating. Both Penny and his new commander, Major Snow (Leo Genn), see potential (and a mystery that does not add up) in him, despite his strong efforts to avoid assuming any responsibility. Canada turns down Snow's offer to send him to officer school.

On a mission in Mexico, unofficially ordered by the previous M, James Bond kills two men arranging to blow up a stadium; in doing so the building they are in explodes and collapses. Early in the Second World War, an explosion occurs when safecracker Eddie Chapman (Christopher Plummer) blows open a wall safe. Outside, a car is backfiring repeatedly and a marching band is passing by. Chapman casually removes some jewels from the safe and examines them for the choicest items. He leaves a card in the safe complimenting its owners for being victims of the Gelignite Gang. The gang pulls off a series of heists before they go on the lam. Chapman is caught in Jersey and imprisoned there. After eight months, he sees German soldiers landing outside the prison and demands to see their commandant.

The setting is Stockholm, Sweden, "this year".
