Synopsis
Dans un port, pendant une escale, un groupe de marins entre dans un bar ; ils sont bientôt rejoints par des filles avec lesquelles ils font la fête. L'un des marins, Militis, reconnait Sarah (la femme du patron du bar) qu'il a jadis aimée. Tous deux discutent en évoquant leurs amours passées puis ils se mêlent aux autres danseurs sous l'œil soupçonneux du patron, le mari de Sarah. Militis est marié avec une jeune Asiatique, laquelle est importunée par un des clients du bar et, lorsqu'il veut la défendre, cela provoque une bagarre générale entre les marins et les clients. Militis est tué par le patron au cours de la rixe. Tout le monde quitte alors le bar sauf Sarah, qui reste éplorée près du corps de Militis. Les policiers l'emmènent, la croyant coupable.Actors

In a villa close to Genoa, a man says goodbye to his wife and young son. He is going to spend one day and one night in the city to take leave of a friend embarking on a boat. In a working-class district of Paris, Albert, an impecunious street singer, lives in an attic room. He meets a beautiful Romanian girl, Pola, and falls in love with her; but he is not the only one, since his best friend Louis and the gangster Fred are also under her spell. One evening Pola dares not return home because Fred has stolen her key and she does not feel safe. She spends the night with Albert who, reluctantly remaining the gentleman, sleeps on the floor and leaves his bed to Pola. They soon decide to get married, but fate prevents them when Émile, a thief, deposits with Albert a bag full of stolen goods. It is discovered by the police, and Albert is sent to prison. Pola finds consolation with Louis. Later Émile is caught in his turn and admits that Albert was not his accomplice, which earns Albert his freedom. Fred has just got back together with Pola who has fallen out with Louis, and in a jealous fury at Albert's return Fred decides to provoke a knife fight with him. Louis rushes to Albert's rescue and the two comrades are re-united, but their friendship is clouded by the realisation that each of them is in love with Pola. Finally Albert decides to give up Pola to Louis.

Le film commence un samedi soir alors qu'Antoine (Roger Pigaut), ouvrier dans une imprimerie et Antoinette (Claire Mafféi), employée au Prisunic des Champs-Élysées, s'apprêtent à quitter leur travail pour rejoindre leur domicile. Antoinette est séduisante et subit les assiduités d'un épicier peu scrupuleux (Noël Roquevert). Le couple, en proie aux difficultés de la vie matérielle, en cet après-guerre, se dispute pour des broutilles et se réconcilie sur l'oreiller. Antoine découvre que le billet de loterie acheté par Antoinette est gagnant, il pourra enfin réaliser son rêve et acheter un side-car. S'ensuivent quelques rebondissements, billet perdu et retrouvé, correction infligée à l'épicier, promenade en barque sur le lac du bois de Boulogne, match de football au Parc des Princes, et le couple, finalement installé sur son side-car, s'éloigne sur la route.
