Synopsis
Laure est une hôtesse de l'air qui veut faire un enfant. Oussmane est un musicien qui veut devenir un artiste reconnu. Kahina est une détenue en permission pour Noël, qui veut revoir son fils. Ils vont se rencontrer, se rapprocher, se soutenir, s'affronter, dans la poursuite de leurs rêves. Et ensemble, ils vont tenter de répondre à cette question : Comment l'amour se construit-il? Dacio, 17 ans, est impertinent et insouciant. Sa vie est rythmée par ses heures de cours en lycée professionnel et ses moments de légère dérive « pétards et pickpockets ». Entre ses querelles avec son père et ses prises de tête avec sa petite amie, il a une vie plutôt banale. Mais tout lui échappe quand sa fascinante professeure d’espagnol, Amalia, répond à son insolence par un acte défendu qui les plonge dans une relation ambiguë. Chris est une jeune femme d'origine africaine qui a été adoptée très jeune par une riche famille européenne. Elle a grandi en se mettant à l’écart des personnes de son âge, les observant à travers son appareil photo et vivant par procuration sa jeunesse. À 25 ans, elle n’a jamais eu de relation amoureuse. Elle pense que les critères conscients ou inconscients qui poussent une personne à en aimer une autre ne sont pas pertinents et décide de s'en remettre au hasard : elle va coucher et vivre chez elle avec le premier inconnu qu’elle croisera dans le métro. En l'occurrence, son chemin croise celui de Dama, qui vient de se séparer de sa compagne. Dans la nouvelle relation, elle impose une seule règle : il est interdit de parler.

Aging, respected commander Paul Blanchard (Heston) is on his final submarine tour before promotion to command of a submarine squadron (COMSUBRON). Surfaced and returning to port, the submarine, USS Neptune, is struck by a Norweigian freighter in route to New York in heavy fog, and sinks to a depth of 1,450 feet (442 meters) on a canyon ledge above the ocean floor. A United States Navy rescue force, commanded by Captain Bennett (Keach), arrives on the scene, but Neptune is subsequently rolled by a gravity slide to a greater angle that does not allow the Navy's Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle (DSRV) rescue submarine to complete its work.

Vikas Chandra (Vinod Mehra) and Aarti (Rekha) have recently married, and they move into their new apartment. One day they go out to watch a late night Hindi movie at a local cinema theatre. The movie gets over well after midnight, and as no cab is found this hour, they decide to walk home by foot. On the way, they are suddenly waylaid by four men, who assault Vikas, leaving him unconscious, and forcibly take Aarti with them. When Vikas regains his senses he finds himself in hospital with a head wound. He is informed that Aarti is in the same hospital, after being gang-raped and assaulted. This incident makes headlines in the media, and is also a subject of discussion by politicians during their election campaign. Vikas feels haunted by this incident, and does not know how to act further. Aarti, on the other hand, has been completely traumatised, and is unable to trust any male. Now the couple faces a serious crisis leading to a loveless relationship, and only a miracle can bring the old spark back into their married life.

Raoul (Gérard Depardieu) and his wife Solange (Carole Laure) are eating in a restaurant when Raoul expresses concern with Solange's apparent depression, as she eats little, suffers migraines and insomnia and also sometimes faints. He finds another man in the room, Stéphane (Patrick Dewaere), to be her lover and hopefully enliven her again. Stéphane is puzzled by Raoul's plan but gives in to his desperate appeals for help. The two men take turns sleeping with Solange, and both try to impregnate her without success, believing a lack of a child to be the source of her depression.
