The Bait (French: L'Appât) is a 1995 French film directed by Bertrand Tavernier about two boys and a girl who commit a murder, with the girl acting as a 'bait'.
The film is based on the 1990 book of the same name by Morgan Sportès, which is in turn based on the "Valérie Subra affair", a true event that happened in 1984.
Synopsis
Une jeune femme sert d'« appât » en boîtes de nuit, faisant semblant d'être séduite et permettant, comme le cheval de Troie, à ses acolytes de s'introduire chez sa proie une fois qu'il la ramène chez lui. D'abord conçu afin de réaliser des cambriolages, ce scénario tourne à la torture et à la folie sanguinaire.Actors

Michel Descombes (Philippe Noiret) est horloger dans le quartier de Saint-Paul à Lyon. Un matin, deux policiers se présentent à son atelier et le questionnent sur son fils, sans vouloir lui dire ce qui est arrivé. Il est immédiatement accompagné hors de Lyon sur le lieu où sa camionnette a été retrouvée, vide. Là, le commissaire Guilboud (Jean Rochefort) lui apprend que son fils a tué un homme. Tout au long de l'enquête l'incompréhension entre père et fils se manifeste. Le fils en cavale est arrêté avec sa compagne, et ne s'explique que confusément sur son acte. Peu à peu, Michel se solidarise avec son fils (ce qu'il proclamera d'ailleurs lors du procès). Des échanges de propos anodins dans l'anonymat du parloir montrent, à la fin du film, qu'une véritable connivence s'est installée.

The film is about the French film industry from 1942 to 1944 during the Nazi occupation. The film focuses on assistant director and resistance fighter Jean Devaivre and screenwriter Jean Aurenche. A French couple, Pierre and Geraldine want kids, but Geraldine is unable to conceive. After eleven years of infertility and a two year vetting and administrative process they travel to Cambodia to adopt an orphan. They want to adopt before Christmas. When the couple reaches Cambodia, they book a hotel that has other French people that are also waiting to adopt. Their tempers flare when they have to deal with corruption, frequent rain, mosquitoes, many documents, and the uncertainty of whether or not they will be successful and if they are, what they will do if the baby has any serious diseases.

The film opens with Gene Watson (Johnny Depp), a mild-mannered, widowed accountant arriving with his daughter Lynn at the Union Station in Los Angeles. As Watson makes a pay phone call informing an unidentified person that his train was late, two mysterious strangers in suits, known only as Mr. Smith (Christopher Walken) and Ms. Jones (Roma Maffia), survey the station from a catwalk, discussing a yet-to-be-elaborated scheme. Noticing Watson retaliate against a skater who was harassing his daughter, Smith and Jones set their sights on him and swiftly approach the pair. Showing a badge, the two strangers convince Watson that they are police officers and whisk both father and daughter into a van without justification. Once in the vehicle, Watson begins to notice things are not right and gets nervous, but Smith subsequently pistol whips him in the leg to get his attention. Smith then informs Watson that they will kill his daughter by 1:30 p.m. unless he murders a woman depicted in a photograph. He soon learns that the woman is State Governor Eleanor Grant and realizes that killing her would be a suicide mission.
