Septième film à réunir les trois frères Hui (si l'on compte le film Prise de bec à Hong Kong où Sam ne fait qu'un caméo), cette comédie récolte plus de 26,3 millions HK$ de recettes mais ne se hisse pas à la tête du box-office hongkongais de l'année ce qui constitue l'unique cas chez les sept films des frères Hui. Michael Hui remporte avec ce film le Hong Kong International Artists Association du meilleur acteur.
La bande-originale du film est composée et interprétée par Sam Hui, une habitude pour les films des frères Hui.
Synopsis
Hui (Michael Hui) est l'éditeur en chef de Truth Weekly, un magazine intellectuel qui enchaîne les ventes médiocres. Il est pour cette raison sur le point de déposer le bilan. L'instructeur en arts martiaux Bill le fou (Sam Hui), récemment licencié, postule pour un poste au magazine. Il propose à Hui de se concentrer en particulier sur les scandales impliquant des célébrités. Hui accepte cette idée, et avec l'employé Fly (Ricky Hui), ils fabriquent des potins pour soutenir le prochain numéro.Actors

Police Officer Tuba is a timid man who would rather play in the police band than get involved in any real police work. The precincts' most decorated officer, Sergeant Rambo Chow, decides to use Tuba in an undercover operation that goes disastrously wrong when Chow is killed. He makes Tuba promise to get the criminals to avenge him before he dies, and Tuba reluctantly agrees but does not really intend to keep his promise. Later, teamed with an enthusiastic rookie cop Cheung, Tuba has conveniently forgotten his promise, until the ghost of Chow comes back to haunt him. Interfering in his work and his private life, especially his budding romance with the pretty Joanne so that everyone starts to think that Tuba is going crazy. With Tuba the only person who can see or hear the ghost, he finds he has to listen and for once in his life, be brave, otherwise, he could be tormented by his unwanted spiritual visitor for the rest of his life.

Tim (Michael Hui) and Lee (Samuel Hui) are emloyees of a mental hospital working as an orderly and nurse respectively. One day a crazy man named Cheng Ming (Roy Chiao) is institutionalized who carries a bag of trash. Tim and Lee discover that the bag is full of artifacts from the Ming Dynasty. Unfortunately they are all broken pieces and cannot be traded for money. Then Chiang talks about a Princess and Tim and Lee figure that Cheng knows where are the artifacts from. Later on, Cheng dies from heart attack and Tim and Lee find Princess (Eileen Humphreys) and find out that she is Cheng's daughter. Princess tells them that her father discovered a sunk boat at the coast of Hong Kong. Tim and Lee starts to plan for their luxurious life, including quitting their jobs, and set out to find the artifacts. They do discover tons of it and brings it to trade for money. However, the ones Tim and Lee find are revealed to be fakes. With their dreams of luxury over, Lee gets his job back and Tim got insane and became a mental patient.

The film revolves around the exploits of a detective agency in Hong Kong called Mannix Private Detective Agency. It is headed by private detective Wong Yeuk-sze (Michael Hui) with his emotionally drained assistant Puffy (Ricky Hui). Meanwhile, Lee Kwok-kit (Samuel Hui), a kung fu expert, who works at a Vitasoy plant factory and spends most of the time doing kung fu tricks to impress a girl, ultimately loses his job. Seeking to find another line of work, Lee attempts to joins Wong's detective agency. Despite Lee's impression with his kung fu talent which involves his snatching trick, Wong was not impressed. Then, as it appears that Lee would not get the job, Wong discovers that his wallet was missing and was presumed stolen by one bystander who bumped into them, which led to a scene where Wong fights the thief in the kitchen using sausage nunchaku as a weapon. Wong's onslaught backfires, and just as the thief walks away, Lee intercepts him and recovers the wallet, thus impressed Wong to hire him for the job. In truth, the wallet was in Wong's possession the whole time; they attacked an innocent bystander and stole his wallet.

Chow Sai-cheung (Michael Hui), a bitter supervisor of a Hong Kong private security company, teaches unusual guard tactics to new recruits such as electric mats, parachuting off burning buildings and counter-attacking gunfire. He was secretly observed by his new boss (Stanley Fung) and, unimpressed by his work, the new boss demotes Chow and promotes Chow's assistant Sam (Samuel Hui). Under the leadership of Sam, Chow and new recruit Bruce Tang (Ricky Hui) encounter a slew of misadventures, including pursuing stowaways on a party boat. Bruce ultimately falls in love with one of the stowaways. Finally, they all get entangled in a plot to steal one of China's most prized treasures on display in Hong Kong, and in a plot involving some missing government money that the security officers were guarding.

Hui Kei (Michael Hui) is the struggling proprietor of a BBQ duck restaurant in Hong Kong. At the beginning of the film, Hui is visited by a health inspector, who found a cockroach in his soup and other unsanitary conditions, and threatens to sue the restaurant. Unfortunately, Hui's staff stops him from leaving with the soup sample after a slipup from the inspector. Chi-man (Michael Hui), homme à tout faire et acteur raté, est un employé de la chaîne Mouse TV (MTV) qui ne se voit proposer que des tâches de second plan comme de la figuration très loin derrière les vedettes.
