Galatta Kalyanam is a 1968 Indian Tamil-language film starring Sivaji Ganesan, Jayalalitha, K. A. Thangavelu, Cho Ramaswamy, A. V. M. Rajan, Nagesh, V. Gopalakrishnan, VS Raghavan, Senthamarai, Sachu and Manorama. The film was remade in Malayalam as Snehikaan Samayamilla with Jayan.

Synopsis

Madan (Sivaji Ganesan) and Lalitha (Jayalalitha) are in love with each other. She is the second daughter of a businessman, Dharmalingam (Thangavelu). While seeking her hand in marriage, Dharmalingam lays down a condition that all his daughters’ weddings are to be held simultaneously thereby entrusting Madan with the unenviable task of finding suitable grooms for his other daughters. Madan seeks the help of his friend, Chandran (Nagesh) in his mission. Madan, however, soon realizes that he has a Herculean task ahead of him – the eldest daughter Rathna (Manorama) is averse to getting married. The others have their own tastes and preferences. After encountering a lot of difficulties, they manage to find grooms for all of them.

Lord Shiva gives a sacred fruit, brought by the sage Narada, to his elder son Vinayaka as a prize for outsmarting his younger brother Muruga in a competition to win it. Angered by his father's decision, Muruga, dressed as a hermit, goes to Palani, despite Avvaiyar's attempts to convince him to return to Mount Kailash. G.K Rayudu (Kamal Haasan) is a corrupt Mayor and along with his assistant Charan Raj takes bribe and sells a market to a rich businessman and forces the poor people doing business in the land to move out threatening physical harm. Although Rayudu is married (to Srividya), he has a mistress. Rayudu comes to find out that his assistant and his mistress are married and has been cheating him out of his money for a long time. He finds the assistant’s stash of diamonds and takes it. After spending some time with his wife and kids, Rayudu gets a change of heart and decides to expose his and his assistant’s illegal activities. Before he leaves, he hides the diamonds inside one of his children’s toys. His assistant finds out, murders Rayudu in a fit of rage and stores the body in a freezer.

Sethupathy (Kamal Haasan) is an honest and upright police officer. When he arrests four bigwigs Dharmaraj (Nagesh), Francis Anbarasu (Delhi Ganesh), Nallasivam (Nasser) and Satyamoorthy (Jaishankar), they escape justice easily and return to take revenge. They kill him and poison his wife (Srividya). She escapes and gives birth to twins with the help of another woman Muniyamma (Manorama) but the babies are separated and each woman believes that the other is dead because of the events happening next to birth. One of the twins, Raja (Kamal Haasan) grows up as a mechanic with Muniyamma, while the other twin, Appu (Kamal Haasan), a dwarf, grows up in the circus with his mother.
