Synopsis

Driving through the Australian outback, best friends Marcus (Xavier Samuel) and Craig (Bobby Morley) and their friends, Liz (Georgina Haig) and Nina (Sophie Lowe), are confronted by a road train. The monstrous vehicle comes up behind their SUV and pushes them off the road. Craig's arm is broken. The friends decide seek help from the driver of the truck, which has stopped some distance up the road. The driver is nowhere to be found. Distant gunshots are heard, and a distant, crazed figure in the bush screams and runs towards them. Panicked, the friends commandeer the truck. Driving through the outback, the truck's radio comes on by itself and lulls the four to sleep, leaving the truck to drive itself off the road and up a hill. Liz goes off in search of a shack she claims to have seen, while Marcus attempts to turn the truck around. When the truck refuses to start, he accompanies Liz, while Nina looks after Craig.

The film begins in November 20, 1969, 50 miles off Soviet waters. When the USS Acushnet dives under the ice, a young Ahab listens for enemy subs when suddenly he detects an unknown target. When the captain listens, he hears nothing, but Ahab insists in the presence of an emptiness. The target dives into a trench, but the captain abandons his search in favor of photographing the target. The target attacks the submarine as Ahab hears a roar. The sub is brought to the icy surface, and the target identifies itself as a gigantic, white, whale-like creature. Ahab survives, but loses his leg to the beast when it hauls the other half of the sub back underwater.

A small ship travels to a rotating space station. The Japanese version is told in flashbacks framed by scenes of a reporter questioning the expedition after they have returned from their harrowing ordeal in the mountains. Five young friends, university students, have come to the Japanese Alps during New Year's for a skiing vacation. After Andy Flynn destroyed the original Sharktopus (a half-shark half-octopus creature), its various pieces floated back out into the ocean. However, among the scattered anatomy was an egg sack and marine biologist Lorena finds herself the ward of the creature's sole offspring which she begins raising at her uncle's aquarium to mixed success. Meanwhile, Dr. Rico Symes is hard at work on his own biological weapon. After harvesting a pterodactyl's DNA, he used the DNA from a barracuda to fill in the gaps, creating a monster that can terrorize land, sea, and air. Things are looking pretty good during the initial test flight until the creature is hijacked by a rogue engineer, looking to sell it the highest bidder. He probably would have gotten away with it if he didn't spill his coffee all over his console, but now the Pteracuda is free to rampage the coast in search of food.
