GriGris is a 2013 French-Chadian drama film directed by Mahamat Saleh Haroun, starring Soulémane Démé, Mariam Monory, Cyril Guei and Marius Yelolo. It is about a 25-year-old man with a paralysed leg who dreams of becoming a dancer, and starts to work for a gang of petrol smugglers. The film was produced through the French Pili Films with co-production support from the Chadian Goï Goï Productions. It also received support from Canal+, Ciné+, TV5Monde, Canal Horizons and the CNC. Filming started 29 October 2012.
The film was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and won the Vulcan Award. The film was selected as the Chadian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. The film also screened at the 36th Denver Film Festival.
Synopsis
Malgré sa jambe paralysée qui le handicape, Souleymane, alias Grigris, un jeune tchadien naïf d'un milieu pauvre, qui travaille pour son beau-père photographe, rêve de devenir danseur. Il danse régulièrement dans une boîte de nuit en improvisant des chorégraphies au son de la musique pop, joue avec sa jambe comme d'un jouet désarticulé et suscite parmi les clients une admiration qui lui vaut un beau succès et une certaine renommée locale. Mimi, une jeune et svelte prostituée franco-tchadienne, qui rêve de devenir mannequin et qui admire elle aussi la danse de Grigris, fait une séance de photos promotionnelle dans son atelier. Des sentiments s'installent entre ces deux naufragés de la vie.Actors

Set in the wake of the long Chadian civil war, 16-year-old Atim (Ali Bacha Barkai) is sent by his grandfather to the city to kill Nassara (Youssouf Djaoro), the man who murdered his father before Atim's birth. Atim, carrying his father's gun, finds Nassara running a bakery. Unexpectedly, the taciturn Nassara takes Atim under his wing as the son he never had and begins teaching him how to run the bakery. The emotionally conflicted Atim is drawn into the life of Nassara and his pregnant wife (Aziza Hisseine), before a finale that Variety described as "sharp, fast and unexpected."
