Handel's Last Chance is a 1996 Devine Entertainment film created by David Devine and Richard Mozer for HBO Original Films of New York. The film was directed by Milan Cheylov.
It stars Leon Pownall as George Frideric Handel, Tod Fennell as Jamie, Gerard Parkes as Jonathan Swift, Seana McKenna as Mary, and Cody Jones as Wee Hugh Brannigan.
Devine Entertainment's Handel's Last Chance is set in 1742 Dublin, where 10-year-old Jamie O'Flaherty and the brilliant composer George Frideric Handel live. Jamie, who comes from a very poor family, has been arrested for stealing and is thrown into the dungeon when the film opens. Handel, whose career is almost failing, needs his newest composition to be a big hit. By a stroke of destiny, the young boy and composer the become unlikely allies. Handel gets Jamie out of jail and the boy lends his golden voice to the premiere performance of Messiah.

Based on the life of Dame Nellie Melba, the film traces the career of Melba (Patrice Munsel) from the time she left Australia, traveling to Paris to receive vocal training, meets a new suitor, and debuts her talent in Brussels. An express messenger rides to Vienna and reports at a ball given by Count Lichnowsky that Napoleon Bonaparte is approaching Vienna with his troops. The news spreads like wildfire in the city and also reaches Beethoven, who, together with his friends, is sitting in the tavern. Beethoven is very enthusiastic about the ideals embodied by Napoleon after the French Revolution. He hurries home to write a powerful and glorious symphony - which later becomes famous as Beethoven's "Eroica" - for Napoleon. After the symphony is successful, two messengers from Napoleon come to see Beethoven. They request Beethoven to participate in a reception given by the French emperor. Favouring the glamour, Napoleon has elaborated detailed clothing instructions for Beethoven. Beethoven is disappointed by his idol's superficiality and deletes the dedication to Napoleon from the title page of the symphony.
