Hangor Nodi Grenade - The Mother (Bengali: হাঙর নদী গ্রেনেড, in English: The Shark, the River, the Grenade) is a Bangladeshi Bengali language Liberation war based film released on 1997 directed by Chashi Nazrul Islam. This film is an adaption of Selina Hossain's novel of same title. Oscar winner Satyajit Roy wanted to make a film based on this novel in mid 1970s.
Synopsis
Buri, though she does not like the name, is a restless young girl from the village named Holdi Gaon. She was married to his cousin quite older than her and become mother of his two sons Salim and Kalim of first marriage. She then gives birth a child and named him Rois. He is both deaf and dumb. Her sons grow up and married off. At that time, war broke out. Salim goes to War Camp and Kalim stays at home to look after her mother.The member of the village inform this to the Pakistani Military. They came to her house and ask Kalim to give them Salim and other freedom fighters' information. He denies and then they killed him. One night, Hafez and Kader, two freedom fighters come for shelter as they run out bullet in Buri's house. She sheltered them and when Pakistani Military come to her house, she takes the final decision to save them. She wakes up her autistic son and gives him rifle and brings him to the Military.
