Harvey is a 1998 American television fantasy film comedy directed by George Schaefer. It stars Harry Anderson and Leslie Nielsen. It is based on Mary Chase's play of the same name about a man whose best friend is a pooka named Harvey—in the form of a six-foot rabbit only he can see. Anderson plays the role of the eccentric Elwood P. Dowd. The 1998 television version for CBS was adapted for television by Joseph Dougherty.

Synopsis

Elwood P. Dwod, célibataire excentrique, a depuis plusieurs années pour compagnon Harvey, un lapin haut de 2 mètres, visible de lui seul. Mais sa sœur Veta, craignant que ses fantaisies nuisent à ses propres ambitions, remet Elwood aux bons soins du Docteur Chumley. Celui-ci, diagnostiquant des hallucinations, prescrit un traitement de choc à Elwood. Mais, au dernier moment, Veta refuse ce traitement, préférant que son frère reste tel qu'il est. Quant au docteur Chumley, il semble plus intéressé par Harvey que par Elwood…

À Washington DC, le capitaine de police Frank Matthews a arrêté le meurtrier et violeur Paul Sanderson. Lors de son procès, son avocat W. W. King plaide le vice de forme, alléguant que son client n'a pas été informé de ses droits constitutionnels et la Cour suprême relaxe Sanderson au grand dam de Frank. Parallèlement, ce dernier soupçonne sa femme Adèle d'avoir une liaison avec un homme marié. Pendant qu'il s'est absenté pour se rendre à un colloque à Baltimore, sa femme en profite pour retrouver son amant Brooks Elliot, un ex-petit ami devenu sénateur. Le couple est abattu alors qu'il se trouvait au lit. Frank est le premier suspecté et, malgré son recours à un avocat, le même avocat qui avait défendu Sanderson, il est appréhendé. Pour lui, la culpabilité de Sanderson ne fait aucun doute. Il réussit à s'échapper et va retrouver Sanderson dans sa résidence en Pennsylvanie. Lors de leur affrontement, il réussit à obtenir ses aveux et au moment où Sanderson s'apprête à le tuer, Madame Sanderson mère l'en empêche. Innocenté et de retour à Washington, Frank doute de ses lendemains dans la police.

Carrie Lange (Daphne Zuniga) has just begun her career in social work. She wants to make a difference but must first learn what life is really like for New York City's homeless. She meets an elderly woman named Florabelle (Ball), who makes it known she does not want company or help. Equipped with the precious cart that contains all of her belongings, Flora takes care of herself on the streets of Manhattan. Carrie wins Flora's trust after saving her cart. Flora takes her for a runaway, and Carrie plays along as Flora finds her the best food and warmest places the street have to offer. Flora even divulges painful memories about her past life. They go to Grand Central Station for the night, but are separated after the police throw everyone out. Flora looks for Carrie at a shelter and is stunned to find her working there. She feels she has been betrayed. Against her will, Flora is shuttled off to a woman's shelter in Brooklyn, where she is treated poorly, and then must find her way back to Manhattan. Finding compassion difficult to come by even in those within her profession, Carrie decides she can make a difference one person at a time. Finally realizing she cannot go on living the way she does, Flora accepts Carrie's helping hand. Through Carrie's intervention, for the first time in years, Flora has a place to call home.
