It starred Marion Davies and Dick Powell as the couple. The film was a remake of the 1928 Glorious Betsy, which was in turn based on the play Glorious Betsy by Rida Johnson Young.
Synopsis
En 1803, Napoléon Bonaparte est en train de négocier avec les États-Unis la vente de la Louisiane. Il envoie son frère Jérôme en Amérique comme ambassadeur. Arrivant incognito aux courses de Baltimore, Jérôme rencontre Betsy Patterson, la fille de Charles Patterson, un des négociateurs. Toujours déguisé, il postule pour l'emploi de précepteur de français auprès d'elle, et ils tombent amoureux l'un de l'autre. Jérôme, toutefois, est limogé car il défend Napoléon trop vigoureusement.Actors

Dick Melville (Powell) and June Blackburn (Keeler) meet during a naval review in New York Harbor. Though both come from Navy families, Dick aspires for a singing career and June, her father and brother both having been killed in the war, has vowed never to marry a Navy man. Admiral Melville (Stone), Dick's father, is the new superintendent of the Naval Academy and his dearest wish is that his son follow in his footsteps as a naval officer. He maneuvers Dick into enrolling as a midshipman by accusing him of being afraid of failing the entrance exams.

Richard Palmer Grant Dorcy, known as "Canary," (Powell) is an enlisted man in the United States Army. Stationed in the Hawaiian Islands, he has an friendly but argumentative relationship with his sergeant, Scrapper Thornhill (Pat O'Brien). Although he hates taking orders, Dick has no intention of becoming an officer. When General Fitts (Henry O'Neill) arrives at the base with his daughter Kit (Keeler), Dick is assigned to drive her to the reception that evening. Falling victim to the moonlit night, Kit and Dick miss the reception and attend a native luau instead. They are discovered in each other's arms by Lieutenant Biddle (John Eldredge), who is also in love with Kit. Biddle blames Dick for ruining Kit's reputation and Dick decides to desert. Scrapper begs Kit to straighten things out with Biddle.

Set around 1900, the titular Lazybones is in love with Agnes. Her sister, Ruth, returns home with a child and a story about marrying a seaman who was lost at sea. She attempts suicide by jumping in the river, but Lazybones saves her and, taking pity on the child, Kit, adopts her without revealing her true mother. Agnes and Ruth's mother is very strict and when told by Ruth of the child, strikes her with a cane. As the years pass, Ruth dies and Lazybones goes off to World War I. When he returns, intending to marry Kit now that she is grown up, he finds that she is in love with Dick Ritchie.

The storyline of the film follows several women who volunteer for the Canteen and who must adhere to strict rules of conduct, the most important of which is that while their job is to provide friendly companionship to and be dance partners for the (often nervous) men who are soon to be sent into combat, no romantic fraternization is allowed.
