It is New Year's Eve and the employees of an Economics Institute are ready with their annual New Year's entertainment program. It includes a lot of dancing and singing, jazz band performance and even magic tricks. Suddenly, an announcement is made that a new director has been appointed and that he is arriving shortly. Comrade Ogurtsov arrives in time to review and disapprove of the scheduled entertainment. To him, holiday fun has a different meaning. He imagines speakers reading annual reports to show the Institute's progress over the year, and, perhaps, a bit of serious music, something from the Classics, played by the Veterans' Orchestra. ![Yakov Sverdlov](/imagesen/small/163087.jpg)

Russian revolutionary Vladimir Lenin spent four years in Paris (1909–1912), and this historical docudrama explores those years with a certain amount of humor. Lenin is shown visiting with friends, the meetings with his later mistress Inessa Armand (in the movie she is in love with a young communist, Trofimoff), while several of his philosophical views and economic and political theories are mouthed by a former colleague who narrates the film and brings the material into the present... ![Selena](/imagesen/small/9524.jpg)

Strong-willed, widowed schoolteacher Anna Leonowens arrives in Bangkok from Wales with her young son Louis after being summoned to tutor the many children of King Mongkut. The two are introduced to the Kralahome, King Mongkut's confidante and Siam's prime minister. His severe countenance makes Louis apprehensive, but Anna refuses to be intimidated and convinces him to disguise his fear ("I Whistle a Happy Tune"). The Kralahome explains he has come to escort them to the Royal Palace where they will live – a violation of Anna's contract, which calls for them to live in a separate house outside the walls of the palace. Despite her threat to return to Singapore, Anna reluctantly disembarks with Louis and the Kralahome.![Newsies](/imagesen/small/110110.jpg)

Seventeen-year-old Jack "Cowboy" Kelly (Christian Bale), is one of the hundreds of homeless and orphaned children who sell newspapers in New York City during the 1890s to support themselves. Jack and his fellow newsboys ("newsies" for short), work for Joseph Pulitzer selling his newspaper, the New York World, on the streets of Manhattan. The boys hit the streets of New York each morning, getting breakfast from nuns and heading toward the paper distribution center ("Carrying the Banner"). One morning at the distribution center, Jack meets David "Davey" Jacobs (David Moscow), who has joined the newsies along with his younger brother, Les. Jack notices that David is smart and well-spoken and that Les has a certain marketable cuteness to him, and he takes up a partnership with them in order to sell more papers and in turn earn more money.![Annamayya](/imagesen/small/113167.jpg)
