In 1905 William Crichton (Kenneth More) is the efficient butler in the London household of the Earl of Loam (Cecil Parker) and his family. Carry On Jack starts with the death of Admiral Horatio Nelson (Jimmy Thompson) whose last words are that Britain needs a bigger navy with more men, followed by his famous request for a kiss to Hardy (Anton Rodgers), upon which he meets his demise. In the main story, Albert Poop-Decker (Bernard Cribbins) has taken 8⁄2 years and still not qualified as midshipman, but is promoted by the First Sea Lord (Cecil Parker) as England needs officers. He is to join the frigate Venus at Plymouth. The story concerns three young people: British Army Sergeant Peter Gibbs (Dennis Price), U.S. Army Sergeant Bob Johnson (played by real-life Sergeant John Sweet), and a "Land Girl", Miss Alison Smith (Sheila Sim). Nous découvrons Sam en pirate, enterrant son trésor et possédant un bateau. Son coffre ressort et Sam s'aperçoit que Bugs vit dans le terrier où il avait creusé ; le lapin manque de se faire tuer lorsque Sam décide de l'éliminer afin de garder l'emplacement du trésor secret. Bugs le pousse presque au suicide et monte dans le bateau poursuivi par un Sam furax; ce dernier tombe sur Bugs déguisé en capitaine qui lui ordonne de faire diverses corvées avant de se rendre compte de la supercherie, son perroquet montre toutes les cachettes de Bugs avant de se faire offrir un bâton de dynamite allumé, Bugs imitant le perroquet attire Sam dans un canon que le lapin s'empresse de faire fonctionner. Il utilise ensuite le nid de pie comme ascenseur avant d'envoyer à Sam une corde qui débouche sur le sol; Sam s'assomme en voulant utiliser un levier, il rattrape une enclume de Bugs et coule son bateau, Bugs lui fait ensuite son coup du canon, le coup des portes, et enfin son coup de la poudre. Sam se fait avoir une dernière fois lorsque Bugs camoufle l'entrée de son terrier avec un canon.

The film begins aboard a steamer crossing the Atlantic Ocean, and initially showcases the misadventures of an unnamed immigrant, the Tramp (Chaplin) who finds himself in assorted mischief while, among other things, playing cards, eating in a mess hall, and avoiding seasick passengers. Along the way, he befriends another unnamed immigrant (Purviance) who is traveling to America with her ailing mother. The two are robbed by a pickpocket who is losing in gambling. The Tramp, feeling sorry for the two penniless women, attempts to secretly place his winnings from his card game in the woman's pocket, but ends up being mistakenly accused of being a pickpocket. The woman manages to clear the Tramp's name. Upon arrival in America, the Tramp and the woman part company.
