Hitler Lives (also known as Hitler Lives?) is a 1945 American short documentary film directed by Don Siegel, who was uncredited. The film won an Academy Award at the 18th Academy Awards in 1946 for Documentary Short Subject. Earlier the same year, Siegel made his directorial debut on another short film Star in the Night (1945), which also won an Academy Award.
Hitler Lives is based on the film Your Job in Germany, which was produced shortly before the end of the Second World War. Your Job in Germany was written by Theodor Geisel (better known as Dr. Seuss).
While retaining some of the original film footage, Hitler Lives was written by Saul Elkins. The film warns that the defeated German population still contains Nazi supporters and that the world must stay ever vigilant against the prospect that a new Hitler will arise within Germany. The film combines dramatized content mixed with archive footage. The end of the film warns against fascism in America.

Close to the end of the American Civil War, injured Yankee soldier John McBurney is rescued from the verge of death by a twelve-year-old girl from an all-girl boarding school in Louisiana. Montigny, Meurthe-et-Moselle 1944: Squad leader Sergeant Larkin (Harry Guardino) and his men are taking a well-deserved rest behind the lines after conducting front-line combat operations for several weeks. Rumor has it the unit will be rotated state-side and the men are almost giddy in anticipation. During an interlude at a church and later at a tavern, the senior non-commissioned officer, Technical Sergeant Pike (Fess Parker), happens upon acquaintance John Reese (Steve McQueen), a former master sergeant, demoted to private, who walks about armed with a distinctive M3 submachine gun. Reese is the quintessential troubled loner, managing to alienate almost everyone in the squad right from the beginning. Unlike his jubilant comrades, the prospect of a long break from combat, perhaps the end of the war itself, renders Reese morose. The company commander, Captain Loomis (Joseph Hoover), is worried because Reese, although already having won a field citation, acts irresponsibly when there is no fighting, but Pike comments that he is a good soldier in combat.

A drifter named Hogan spots and saves a naked woman from being gang-raped by several bandits whom he shoots and kills. The story of the rise of politician Willie Stark (Broderick Crawford) from a rural county seat to the governor's mansion is depicted in the film. He goes into politics, railing against the corruptly run county government, but loses his race for county treasurer, in the face of unfair obstacles placed by the local machine. Stark teaches himself law, and as a lawyer, continues to fight the local establishment, championing the local people and gaining popularity. He eventually rises to become a candidate for governor, narrowly losing his first race, then winning on his second attempt. Along the way he loses his innocence and becomes as corrupt as the politicians he once fought against. When his son becomes paralyzed following a drunk driving accident that kills a female passenger, Stark's world starts to unravel and he discovers that not everyone can be bought off.
