Hum Hindustani (Translation We, the Indians ) is a 1960 Hindi movie produced by Sashadhar Mukherjee and directed by Ram Mukherjee. The film stars Sunil Dutt, Joy Mukherjee, Asha Parekh, Jagirdar, Helen, Leela Chitnis, Agha, Prem Chopra and Sanjeev Kumar in his debut. The film is a remake of "Basu Parivar" (1952). The film about clash of Indian feudalism and modern youth during in the Nehruvian era, symbolished by the song, "Chodo Kal Ki Baatein" (Let go old stories) sung by Mukesh, with music by Usha Khanna and written by IPTA poet, Prem Dhawan.

The films music is by Usha Khanna. Although, one source has indicated that the film did "above average" business at the box office, Helen said that because the film "flopped," she wasn't offered character roles after this film, until later in career and was typecast as a dancer.

This is a story about two guys who act as mock witnesses and always hang around court to give evidence as per the requirement of the case every time. They have never believed in God but eventually they have to accept the power of God. Ahmed and Mohan Kumar Saxena are petty thieves, and con-men. They career is spent as false witnesses near the Bombay courts, where they get paid a set sum of rupees for false depositions. It is a thriller about a young woman, Sunita (played by Asha Parekh), who ends up married to the "wrong" man, Rajan. Ajay and Asha get married and settle down. After marriage Asha is expected to conceive, but she is unable to do so. After a certain incident she also loses her eyesight and becomes dependent on Ajay. Frustrated Gayetridevi decides to ask Asha to leave the house, and arranges a second marriage for Ajay, an act which will change the lives of everyone in the house.

Manorama (Nirupa Roy) comes to Lucknow along with her infant daughter after the death of her husband, searching for her maternal uncle. Jwala Prasad is to marry the girl of his dreams. On the day of the marriage, his wife is dressed all in red. Just before the wedding she slips off to meet her real lover. When Jwala finds out, he is so enraged that he turns into a monster and kills both his to-be wife and her lover. The saga does not end here, and Jwala as a monster continues to terrorize the region, first abducting brides dressed in red just before the wedding procession stops at a Mandir (temple). When a groom finally confronts and kills the monster, it leaves the body of Jwala Prasad and possesses the body of its killer. And the terror continues. Years later another man has now killed this creature, and the monster has possessed the man's body, and it is again on a killing spree. The police of this region do confront this creature, but find out it is invincible,bullets cannot harm it, nor can physical strength of fully grown men overpower it. The suspense mounts as one by one the brides are killed off and no one seems to have a clue. Everybody seems to be suspect, including the village Priest, the Thakur, his son, and several other people. Even if they do manage to kill this creature, it will simply re-possess the body of another male, and continue its gruesome task. The movie was a box office hit of 1979, all of the songs of this film became hits. A superb movie of yesteryears with multistar cast.
