Add to a movie listIrish and Proud of It is a 1936 British-Irish comedy film directed by Donovan Pedelty and starring Richard Hayward, Dinah Sheridan and Liam Gaffney. In the film, a popular London-based Irish singer announces one evening how much he would love to go home to his home village in rural Ireland. For a prank, some of his friends take him up on this offer. He is kidnapped and desposited on a wild moor. He returns to the village of his youth, slightly disorentated, and battles an American gangster who has taken control of the settlement.
It was made at Wembley Studios as a quota quickie for release by the British subsidiary of Paramount Pictures.

After his aircraft company's groundbreaking work on jet engine technology in the Second World War, John Ridgefield (Ralph Richardson), its wealthy owner, employs test pilot Tony Garthwaite (Nigel Patrick), a successful wartime fighter pilot to fly new jet-powered aircraft. Garthwaite is hired by Ridgefield after marrying Ridgefield's daughter, Susan (Ann Todd). Tensions between father and daughter are accentuated by Garthwaite's dangerous job of test flying. In a noteworthy illustration of the new technology, Susan accompanies Garthwaite on a ferrying assignment of a two-seater de Havilland Vampire to Cairo, Egypt, returning later the same day as passengers on the de Havilland Comet.

An engineer Christopher Pelly (Maxwell Reed), loses his eyesight in an accident. He goes to London to have an eye operation. There he wants to go to his friends house but the taxi driver dropped him at the wrong house in Kensington. In the house three men had murdered a person with a knife and the corpse was lying on the floor. Pelly doesn't know that he is in the wrong house, and seeing that he is blind, the three murderers don't kill him. Pelly reported the incident to the police but the police were unable to find the dead body. When Pelly regains his eyesight after the operation he decides to solve the murder mystery.

This comedy explores the wayward rivalry between mechanic and Home Guard lance corporal George Singleton (George Formby) and an adversary also in the Home Guard (Ronald Shiner). When the rival Home Guard units of Major Wallop and Minor Wallop are sent on battle manoeuvres, George Singleton (Formby) launches his own unique style of commando raid against neighbouring Major Wallop to steal a Vickers machine gun. The raid fails and Singleton loses his lance corporal's stripe, so he and a little evacuee girl named Irene (Vera Frances) decide to fall back on 'Plan B' - to build their very own tank. The venture is such a success that George is made a sergeant.

The life of an ordinary family during the London Blitz. In the summer before that explosive September, elderly clerk Mr. Bunting (Edward Rigby) loses his job at the Department store where he's worked for over 40 years. George Bunting is the head of a happy home, with wife Mary (Mabel Constanduros), daughter Julie (Peggy Cummins), and two sons, Chris (Eric Micklewood) and Ernest (Jimmy Hanley). When the Blitz hits London, we observe its effect on the family, and how they cope with the crisis. Mr. Bunting is rehired in his former job due to the shortage of manpower, though little else in his life is positive. Daughter Julie goes to work in a factory. The London blitz destroys everything in sight, and one of his sons, Chris, is killed. In the wake of this destruction, his other son, Ernest is converted from pacifism to the war effort.
