Synopsis
Chandni (Urmila Matondkar), a lower class talented night club singer and dancer, who happens to be religious, and well mannered, lives an unfortunate life with her three aunts, who dominate her life, and with a weak maternal grandmother. She dances for a living because it is the only way she can support her poor family and she hopes to give her nieces an education.Actors

Shaadiram Gharjode (Sadashiv Amrapurkar) is once humiliated by Hoshiyar Chand (Kader Khan) when Shaadiram goes to inform him about a family wanting to marry their son to Hoshiyar's daughter. Hoshiyar Chand insults them as he wants both his daughters to marry into the richest family. Gharjode decides to teach Hoshiyar Chand a lesson: He meets a coolie called Raju (Govinda) and they go to Hoshiyar Chand's village pretending to be a rich family. Hoshiyar is impressed and he wants his daughter Malti (Karisma Kapoor) to marry Raju. This leads to humorous situations in the climax.

Sunder Srivastava (Shahrukh Khan) is a young graduate whose main ambition in life is to fulfill his father's dream of starting a school on his half-acre property in his village, though he has no funds to execute his plans. Sunder's childhood friend Prem, a seasoned conman in Mumbai, convinces the gullible Sunder to mortgage. When Sunder comes to Mumbai, he is first tricked and loses his luggage, then pick-pocketed and loses his money. He then finds that Prem tricked him and fled to Dubai with using his money. Sunder is forced to take shelter in a cemetery. Sunder starts cursing his stars and venting his anger. A voice responds to him and a surprised Sunder asks the person to identify himself. The source of the voice, who cannot be seen, is surprised and asks Sunder whether the latter can really hear him.

Raju is a waiter in a popular hotel. He is in love with Geeta (Karisma Kapoor), a famous news anchor. He is obsessed with her news segment. His big dream is to meet and marry her one day. He is assigned to feed the hotel customers, and meets Mr. Desai who is also staying in his hotel. On his way out of Mr Desai's hotel room, he sees an unknown stranger named Ketu (Shakti Kapoor) going into his room. Ravi Yadav (Vinod Khanna) is the servant of Manohar Singh (Rajiv Verma). He has a younger brother, Rohan Yadav (Salman Khan) who he wishes to see as a successful and good lawyer. Manohar's wife starts to teach Ravi English so he can get a good job when he goes to Mumbai and that he can afford Rohan's school and college expenses, but Manohar feels insecure and plans to jail Ravi. Ravi is falsely accused of Raping his lover: Parvati, and sentenced to 12 years in prison because the real rapist killed Parvati and then told the court that Ravi has raped her. Manohar's wife Renuka (Moushumi Chatterjee) assures Ravi that she will help Rohan in becoming a lawyer. 12 years later, when Ravi comes out of prison Rohan's whereabouts are unknown. Rohan, in the meantime, has been adopted by famous lawyer Gujral (Saeed Jaffrey), and his wife Yashoda (Reema Lagoo), and is now known as Vasudev Gujral, a lawyer by profession. Vasudev falls in love with Payal Singh (Karisma Kapoor), who happens to be Manohar's daughter. Ravi finds out that Renuka is alive but her memory is diminished after Manohar tries to kill her. Manohar is unaware of Renuka being alive.He starts medical treatment for Renuka. To earn the needed money, he accepts a contract to kill Vasudev Gujral because he is told that Vasu has raped and then killed a women and by killing Vasu he is helping the women's mother in revenge, little knowing that he is about to kill his own innocent long-separated brother.

Mrs. Malhotra (Reema Lagoo) is the mother of twins, who were separated at birth, and she only has one son. Mrs. Malhotra goes into shock and then is restricted to a wheelchair. She resides with her husband and son in the US. Quiet and mature Prem, (Salman Khan) one of the twins, and his dad (Dalip Tahil) return to India together with Mrs. Malhotra to get Prem married. Prem's future fiance is the outgoing and precocious Mala (Karishma Kapoor), who is the daughter of Mr. Sharma (Kader Khan). There Prem meets with his twin brother very outgoing and precocious Raja (also Salman Khan), who looks like him, but is exactly the opposite in nature. A series of comic scenes result as a result of the twins getting together. Prem loves quiet and mature Roopa (Rambha) and Raja loves Mala (Karishma Kapoor), and both the girls are confused by the change they perceive in their respective lovers. Rahul Khanna (Shah Rukh Khan) and Anjali Sharma (Kajol) are best friends in St. Xavier's College. The college principal Mr. Malhotra (Anupam Kher) has a beautiful daughter Tina (Rani Mukerji), who comes to St. Xavier's from London to finish her degree. She becomes friends with both Rahul and Anjali. When Anjali realizes that she is in love with Rahul, she is encouraged by her motherly guardian Rifat Bi (Himani Shivpuri) to tell him so. Instead, Anjali is left heartbroken when Rahul tells her that he loves Tina. Anjali decides to leave college and shares a tearful goodbye with Rahul, going away from Rahul and Tina's lives forever. Tina then realizes that she came between two best friends. After college, Rahul marries Tina and, in a year of marriage, Tina gives birth to a baby girl. Tina has complications in her pregnancy and has little time left, so she writes eight letters to her daughter (one for each of her first eight birthdays), so that she will know her mother. Before dying, Tina asks Rahul to promise her to name their daughter Anjali.
