The film also saw prominent music composer M. S. Viswanathan make his debut in a supporting role, whilst Vivek, Karan and Girish Karnad also played other roles. The film, which had music composed by Bharathwaj, was released in March 1998 to positive reviews and box office super hit.
Synopsis
Rudran (Girish Karnad), a very strict disciplinarian father of two daughters, hates the word 'Love'. The very mention of this word makes him punish himself to unimaginable heights. He disowns his elder daughter Menaka because she elopes with her lover. The strictness is doubled for the younger daughter Thilottama (Maanu) and a marriage alliance is fixed for her. She stoically accepts her father's decision till she meets a local mechanic Shiva (Ajith). Both hopelessly fall in love with each other. Tilottama is unable to reveal her love to Shiva and to her father, as she fears the consequences.Actors

Arivazhagan (Manoj) has grown up to be a rowdy because of the neglect and ill-treatment by the hands of his parents and his only aim in life is to be an irritant to his father. The entire family attends the marriage of Savitri (Richa) in Bangalore and when the groom disappears, Arivu offers to take his place. The marriage never happens but Savitri shows up at Arivu's house later, asking him to give her refuge. When he moves out of the house to take up residence with his friends, she follows him there too. Initially irritated by her, Arivu realises that he is gradually falling in love with her. Meanwhile, the friends learns that Savitri left her own surroundings just to get over the gruesome suicide of her close friend Nisha (Preetha), a victim of eve-teasing. Nisha's brother Kishore (karan) and her family are still haunted by her death and the brother promises to avenge on the person who was the cause of his sister's death. Who is responsible for Nisha's suicide, and will Arivu succeed on proposing his love towards Savitri forms the rest of the story.

Jagan (R. Madhavan) and Jamuna (Amoga) meet in a shopping mall in Chennai. They like each other and spend a day chatting in the coffee shop. Jamuna, a believer in destiny, writes down her address and telephone number on a Rs.100 note and makes the payment at the cafe declaring that if the note comes back to Jagan then it means that he was destined to meet her. Mythili (Reema Sen) showers love and affection on Viswa (Bharath), her neighbor, since childhood. Ragunandan who comes back to Goa finds the house deserted. The next door neighbor tells him that Mythili eloped with Viswa. He then begins to track her down and finds that the duo had left to Chennai. Ragunandan reaches Chennai, but is unable to tell his parents the real plight. With the help of Harichandra(Vivek), his colleague, he tries to trace her out. A chance look at the video of their marriage throws light on Viswa’s hatred towards Ragunandan. Now Ragunanthan is convinced that Mythili did not go on her own will. He confronts Viswa’s father but he is of no help. Finally he traces out the location of Viswa’s hideout. Mythili on the other hand pleads with Viswa to release her. She explains that she cannot be his wife and can see him only as a son or a little brother. The plea falls on deaf ears. In a racy climax on high seas, the three protagonists fight it out and Mythili hits Viswa with the boat oars. He plunges in to the sea in an unconscious condition taking Mythili along. Ragunanthan comes at the nick of the time to save her. Even though she had killed him because of her attack on him, she is filled with remorse.
