Kid is a 2012 drama film. It was written and directed by Fien Troch, produced by Antonino Lombardo, and starred Bent Simons, Gabriela Carrizo and Maarten Meeusen.

The film tells the story of Kid, a seven-year-old boy who lives with his mother and his older brother Billy on a farm outside a small town. Abandoned by their father, they have had to fend for themselves. Their finances are in ruins and the two boys have to move with their uncle and aunt.

Kid had its world premiere on October 12, 2012 at the Flanders International Film Festival Ghent. It has received high praise from film critics and won various awards from numerous film organizations and festivals. Kid received the André Cavens Award for Best Film by the Belgian Film Critics Association (UCC). The film had its North American premiere at the AFI Fest on November 2, 2012. It received three nominations at the 4th Magritte Awards, winning Best Flemish Film in Coproduction.

Synopsis

Billy et son frère Kid vivent avec leur mère sur une exploitation agricole en déliquescence. Le jour où ils partent vivre chez leur oncle et leur tante, le monde de Kid s’écroule : la seule personne auprès de qui il souhaite passer du temps, sa mère, n’est plus là. Mais comment la rejoindre ? Comme dans ses précédents films, Fien Troch se penche sur une enfance meurtrie, une famille dévastée, plongée dans le silence. Telle un peintre de retables flamands, la réalisatrice multiplie les plans larges sur les paysages de campagne et transforme ainsi les hommes en éléments d’une nature morte, impuissants et découragés. Les personnages bougent à peine, parlent peu ou se murent dans un silence de plomb. Une fresque intense, pénétrante et envoûtante.

Ce film nous montre avec quelle profondeur peut résonner ce qui est presque invisible.

Vikas Chandra (Vinod Mehra) and Aarti (Rekha) have recently married, and they move into their new apartment. One day they go out to watch a late night Hindi movie at a local cinema theatre. The movie gets over well after midnight, and as no cab is found this hour, they decide to walk home by foot. On the way, they are suddenly waylaid by four men, who assault Vikas, leaving him unconscious, and forcibly take Aarti with them. When Vikas regains his senses he finds himself in hospital with a head wound. He is informed that Aarti is in the same hospital, after being gang-raped and assaulted. This incident makes headlines in the media, and is also a subject of discussion by politicians during their election campaign. Vikas feels haunted by this incident, and does not know how to act further. Aarti, on the other hand, has been completely traumatised, and is unable to trust any male. Now the couple faces a serious crisis leading to a loveless relationship, and only a miracle can bring the old spark back into their married life.
