It is the first film in English that deals with the issue of honor killings. The film won India’s National Film Award for Best Feature Film in English for Director Avantika Hari and Producer Vivek Agrawal. The award was presented by the President of India, Mrs. Pratibha Patil.
Land Gold Women was shot entirely in the UK and is an Indo -UK production made under the production banner Avantika Hari and Vivek Agrawal now run A Richer Lens together.
Synopsis
Set in modern Birmingham, Land Gold Women revolves around a small British Asian family caught between their traditional past and the tumultuous, faction-driven present. Nazir Ali Khan, a soft-spoken, 45-year-old professor of History at a University in Birmingham, emigrated from India in the 1980s. He made Birmingham his home with his conservative wife Rizwana and their two children, Saira, 17 and Asif, 14. He indulges their interests in all things English and Western but now finds himself increasingly nostalgic about his roots.Actors

Raj Jaiswal (Arjun Rampal) is the TV host of his own talk show, British Raj and a notorious womanizer. He promises every woman he flirts with to marry her, however, secretly, he has sworn to stay a bachelor forever. One day, he meets a mysterious woman, Shivani Dutt (Vipasha Agarwal) on his balcony who claims that his apartment is actually hers. Raj is instantly smitten with her. However, it turns out that he is the only one who can see her and touch her. To everyone else it seems as if he talks to himself and is slowly going mental. His friends tell Raj to let go, but Raj refuses, as he has fallen in love with the ghost woman. He finds out that Shivani is actually lying in a hospital in a coma, and her life support is about to be cut off. Raj decides to save her and brings her comatose body to his apartment to look after it. Shivani's doctor wants to kill her as she has witnessed an illegal operation where a kidney was removed and the doctor wants to save himself. Shivani finally admits that she has fallen in love with Raj, but Inspector Smith is on his trail and finally finds out what happened to Shivani's body - and also discovers the doctor's organ trafficking. Soon afterwards, Shivani awakens from her coma and doesn't remember Raj or the time she has spent with him as a ghost at all. Raj, disappointed, leaves her at the hospital and decides to get to know her anew: he finds her at a restaurant and introduces himself.

Vikas Chandra (Vinod Mehra) and Aarti (Rekha) have recently married, and they move into their new apartment. One day they go out to watch a late night Hindi movie at a local cinema theatre. The movie gets over well after midnight, and as no cab is found this hour, they decide to walk home by foot. On the way, they are suddenly waylaid by four men, who assault Vikas, leaving him unconscious, and forcibly take Aarti with them. When Vikas regains his senses he finds himself in hospital with a head wound. He is informed that Aarti is in the same hospital, after being gang-raped and assaulted. This incident makes headlines in the media, and is also a subject of discussion by politicians during their election campaign. Vikas feels haunted by this incident, and does not know how to act further. Aarti, on the other hand, has been completely traumatised, and is unable to trust any male. Now the couple faces a serious crisis leading to a loveless relationship, and only a miracle can bring the old spark back into their married life.

Raoul (Gérard Depardieu) and his wife Solange (Carole Laure) are eating in a restaurant when Raoul expresses concern with Solange's apparent depression, as she eats little, suffers migraines and insomnia and also sometimes faints. In order to improve their lifestyle, village near Badaun, based Ghulam Hasan (Farooq Shaikh) decides to re-locate to Bombay, on the insistence of his close friend Lalulal Tiwari (Jalal Agha).
