Synopsis
Noah (Ratner), a weatherproofing specialist, is preparing to marry Zipporah (Betrani), a country music singer. His best friend, Peter (Scholte), is a Canadian Literature professor whose relationship with librarian Leslie (Sivak) is threatened by the arrival of a beautiful student (Delver). Meanwhile, Noah's and Peter's other close friend Shane (Gale), is an architect who has a seemingly wonderful relationship with Sarah (Parker), until she graduates and lands a better job than the one he has.Actors

The story begins in 1957 in the star-filled skies above California's Mojave Desert. Kyle Halsted, Sonia Logan, and Michael Weeks are inmates at a rehabilitation facility. Bob Simpson, the administrator, tasks them with apologizing to those they have hurt with their addiction. When Kyle attempts to apologize to his younger sister Charlotte, she angrily blows him off, and the principal kicks him off school grounds. Sonia goes to the hospital where her dying father is a patient, but she is unable to bring herself to face him. Michael visits his father in jail, but the conversation is cut short by his father's abusive threats. When Bob tries to get them to discuss their day in group therapy, they refuse, and Michael storms off. Later, while discussing the pointlessness of Bob's therapy, Sonia is told that her father has died. As the trio try to deal with their emotional pain, a storm rolls in, and each of them is shocked and knocked unconscious.

An asteroid much larger than that which caused the Chicxulub Crater is attacked by a ten-megaton nuclear warhead minutes before its collision with Earth, breaking it into three pieces, the largest of which (the size of Iceland) bounces off the Earth's atmosphere. This "substantially changes the Earth's orbit", resulting in an increase in temperature predicted to rise to 151 Fahrenheit within five days. Authorities decide to inform the public of the problem after two days, touching off a wave of looting and attacks by gangs of police officers and criminals. One family gets together, hotwires a refrigerated truck, and heads for an airport where they plan to meet with a plane taking them to a remote Arctic outpost. Several gun battles ensue, until the disaster ends in a sudden rain as the Earth "finds its natural balance" with the gravity of the other planets as they manage to pull it back to its correct orbit.

Sunday et Parker profitent de leur premier anniversaire de mariage pour résoudre une affaire criminelle. Ils ont invité dans leur ranch la femme qu'ils soupçonnent et parviennent à lui faire avouer son crime devant les yeux médusés de Danny, chef du "Secret Service", le père de Sunday, et de Miriam, la mère de Parker. Le lendemain, Parker, ancien secrétaire d'Etat, doit inaugurer un musée du chemin de fer. En y allant, Miriam et Danny se font enlever. Le ravisseur demande la remise en liberté de Claudius Jovunet, un tueur à gage actuellement en prison, contre la libération de ses otages. Parker appelle le Président, son ami, afin qu'il lui donne l'autorisation de tout entreprendre pour libérer sa mère et son beau-père. Le Président accepte. Sunday demande à Molly, son assistante, d'analyser en détail les éléments en leur possession : les photos que le ravisseur leur a envoyées et les anciens dossiers dans lesquels elle a plaidé. Miriam et Danny sont enfermés dans un sous-sol. Sunday et Parker rendent visite à Jovunet et le persuadent de les aider. Il accepte de jouer leur jeu : ils vont faire semblant d'accepter les conditions du ravisseur pour gagner du temps. Molly trouve dans ses dossiers le nom d'un homme qui en voulait à Sunday, Wexler Klint, dont le frère, Wallace, a été injustement condamné à perpétuité.
