Add to a movie listLe Crocodile est un projet de comédie française inabouti de Gérard Oury, d'après un scénario de lui-même, de sa fille Danièle Thompson et de Josy Eisenberg. Gérard Oury a tenté de réaliser son projet de 1974 à 1976, puis en 1979-1980 et ensuite en 1983.
Le film raconte les aventures (et mésaventures) du colonel (ou général, ou capitaine) Crochet, dictateur d'un pays imaginaire d'Amérique du Sud.
L'histoire s'inspire du Dictateur de Charlie Chaplin et aurait dénoncé et caricaturé les régimes totalitaires sud-américains de la fin du 20ème siècle comme l'avait fait Chaplin avec la dictature d'Hitler.
Synopsis
Le colonel (ou général, ou capitaine) Crochet règne en maître sur un pays imaginaire d'Amérique du Sud (ou d'Europe du Sud, puisque les colonels grecs ou Salazar au Portugal comptent parmi les inspirations d'Oury) où déconfiture économique, privation des libertés et révoltes font partie du lot quotidien. Tout comme Somoza au Nicaragua ou encore le shah d’Iran, les américains finissent par le lâcher. Il est politique mort, sa popularité est, naturellement, au plus bas et les problèmes viennent même de sa propre famille : son fils le trahit et passe à la gauche révolutionnaire, tandis que Mme Crochet fomente une insurrection car elle a une liaison avec le chef de la police et veut l’installer à la place de son mari.Actors

Crochet (literally « Hook », in English) is the dictator of a South American (or a South European) country, where the economic meltdown, the deprivation of liberty and the rebellions are part of the daily lot. Suddenly, everybody betrays him : the Americans drop him, the money he hid in Switzerland disappears, and his wife has an affair with the chief of the country's police and wants to make his lover the new leader of the country. To regain his popularity, Crochet organizes false bombings against himself. But he doesn't know that his wife and her lover had prepared real attacks.

Summer 1941. Over Nazi-occupied France, a Royal Air Force B17 Flying Fortress becomes lost after a mission and is shot down over Paris by German flak. The crew, Sir Reginald, Peter Cunningham and Alan MacIntosh, parachute out over the city, where they run into and are hidden by a house painter, Augustin Bouvet, and the grumbling conductor of the Opéra National de Paris, Stanislas Lefort. Involuntarily, Lefort and Bouvet get themselves tangled up in the manhunt against the aviators led by Wehrmacht Major Achbach as they help the airmen to escape to the free zone with the help of Resistance fighters and sympathisers.

While leaving his flat in Paris for vacation, Antoine Maréchal has a car accident. His 2CV is totally wrecked by Léopold Saroyan's Bentley, the director of an import-export company. As a compensation for the accident, Saroyan offers Maréchal to drive his best friend's 1964 Cadillac DeVille from Naples to Bordeaux, all expenses paid. Unknown to Maréchal, Saroyan is the leader of a criminal organization and the Cadillac is filled with drugs, stolen gold and diamonds, including the largest diamond in the World, the Youkounkoun. Maréchal departs for his destination, oblivious of both his cargo and Saroyan who is discreetly following him to watch over the delivery.

In 1916, during the thick of World War I, a German and a French fighter ace by the names of Gunther von Beckman (Hoffman) and Jo Cavalier (Belmondo) manage to drag each other out of the sky. An argument and subsequent fistfight about who is to be whose prisoner is rudely interrupted by an artillery barrage, forcing both to stick together in order to survive.
