En 1902, dans la ville russe de Nijni Novgorod, le jeune révolutionnaire Yakov Sverdlov, grâce au soutien financier de Maxime Gorki, se procure une presse pour pouvoir imprimer clandestinement de la propagande anti-tsariste.
