Synopsis

À l'université, Li Ting Lang a beaucoup d'amis, jusqu'à ce qu'il s'intéresse à Marion Halstead, une jeune femme de la haute société, ce qui lui attire de nombreuses remarques. Après avoir annoncé ses fiançailles avec Li Ting Lang, Marion se retrouve peu à peu isolée et Li, réalisant qu'elle perd tous ses amis, lui rend sa liberté. Peu après, un émissaire arrive en Amérique avec la mission d'obliger Li à retourner dans son pays. Il lui administre une drogue et Li se réveille à bord d'un navire en route pour la Chine, alors que ses amis croient qu'il s'est suicidé. Li arrive en pleine révolution et devient un chef militaire important.

Hell's Hinges tells the story of a weak-willed minister, Rev. Bob Henley (played by Standing), who comes to a wild and debauched frontier town with his sister, Faith (played by Williams). The owner of the saloon, Silk Miller (played by Hollingsworth), and his accomplices sense trouble and encourage the local rowdies to disrupt the attempts to evangelize the community. Hard-bitten gunman Blaze Tracy (played by Hart), the most dangerous man around, is, however, won over by the sincerity of Faith. He intervenes to expel the rowdies from the newly built church.

A family on their way to New Guinea is chased by pirates into a storm. The captain and crew abandon the ship leaving the family shipwrecked off an uninhabited island. Father (John Mills) and his two eldest sons Fritz and Ernst (Tommy Kirk and James MacArthur) salvage as much as they can from the wreck including livestock, tools, and even an organ. As they gather what can be removed from the ship, the pirates return and begin shooting at the ship. Fritz and Ernst begin readying the ship's cannon, but they only have one shot. Suddenly, the pirates turn around; Father has put up a flag indicating the ship is under quarantine and that there is Black Death aboard. The three men construct a tree house home on the island while the youngest boy Francis (Kevin Corcoran) investigates the wildlife and starts an impressive collection of animals including a young elephant, a capuchin monkey and two Great Danes rescued from the ship which they name Duke and Turk. Mother (Dorothy McGuire) prays to be rescued. The boys, particularly Ernst, also build inventions to provide modern amenities to the family such as drawing water and preserving food.
