Add to a movie listLife of an American Fireman is a short, silent film Edwin S. Porter made for the Edison Manufacturing Company. It was shot late in 1902 and distributed early in 1903. One of the earliest American narrative films, it depicts the rescue of a woman and child from a burning building. It bears notable similarities to the 1901 English short film Fire!, directed by James Williamson.
Synopsis
Dans leur chambre, une femme et sa fillette se réveillent, la mère remarque la fumée qui envahit la pièce, elle ouvre la fenêtre, appelle à l'aide puis s’évanouit. La porte est défoncée à coups de hache, un pompier entre qui arrache les rideaux et démolit la fenêtre. Il prend la mère dans ses bras et l’évacue par l’échelle dressée à l’extérieur. Quelques secondes plus tard, il réapparaît au sommet de l’échelle, les bras vides, rentre dans la chambre, saisit la fillette et l’évacue par le même chemin. Quelques secondes encore, et deux autres pompiers apparaissent sur l’échelle et entrent dans la chambre pour attaquer le feu avec une lance à incendie.Actors

In October 1991, the commercial fishing boat Andrea Gail returns to port in Gloucester, Massachusetts, with a poor catch. Desperate for money, Captain Billy Tyne (Clooney), convinces the Andrea Gail crew to join him for one more late season fishing expedition. The crew heads out past their usual fishing grounds in the Grand Banks, leaving a developing thunderstorm behind them. Initially unsuccessful, they head to the Flemish Cap, where their luck improves. At the height of their fishing the ice machine breaks; the only way to sell their catch before it spoils is to hurry back to shore. After debating whether to sail through the building storm or to wait it out, the crew decides to risk the storm. However, between the Andrea Gail and Gloucester is a confluence of two powerful weather fronts and a hurricane, which the Andrea Gail crew underestimates.

L’incendie est découvert par un policier qui tente en vain de pénétrer dans la maison. Il donne l’alerte. Les pompiers sortent une voiture de secours et attellent les chevaux qui s’élancent, immédiatement suivis par un autre véhicule. Dans sa chambre enfumée, un homme se désespère. Suffoquant, il essaye d’éteindre le feu qui le menace en versant l’eau d’un broc, une tentative dérisoire. Il cherche à sortir par la porte, il en est empêché par les flammes que l’on devine sur le palier. L’homme s’effondre sur le lit, évanoui. Lorsque le feu gagne les rideaux, les flammes en dévorant le voilage découvrent un pompier qui est là, derrière la fenêtre, juché sur une échelle. À coups de hache, il abat la croisée et entre, tirant derrière lui une lance d’incendie qu’il met en œuvre. Puis il prend l’homme toujours inconscient dans ses bras et l’évacue par la fenêtre. Portant l’homme sur son dos, il descend l'échelle. Arrivé au sol, le rescapé, qui a retrouvé ses esprits, se lamente, désignant la fenêtre, son enfant est restée dans la maison. Un autre pompier enfonce la porte et revient avec la fillette dans les bras, qu’il tend à son père, reconnaissant. À l’étage, un autre homme apparaît à une fenêtre, on tend une toile de secours, l’homme saute. Il est indemne, on l’évacue.

A solar flare from the sun sends a serpentine alien of fire to Earth, where it begins to wreak havoc among a small community in its search for more fuel, in the form of a large military oil reserve. The film begins with Emil Slovak (Karel Roden) and Oleg Razgul (Oleg Taktarov) arriving in America. They were former criminals and after getting out of prison have come to the U.S. to claim their part of a bank heist in Russia (or somewhere in Czech Republic). Within minutes of arriving, Oleg steals a video camera. They go to the run down apartment of their old partner and demand their share. He doesn't have it so Emil stabs him and his wife to death, as Oleg tapes it with the camera. The couple's friend, Czech immigrant Daphne Handlova (Vera Farmiga), covertly witnesses the murders from the bathroom, but she escapes before they can get her too. To hide the crime, Emil burns down the apartment.

William Dudley (Leslie Nielsen) is a corrupt mayor of a nameless Midwestern U.S. city who has allowed an oil refinery to be built right in the center of town, far from any river, lake or reservoir. On one typical hot summer day, Herman Stover (Jonathan Welsh), a dangerously disturbed employee at the works has been denied an expected promotion and in addition, finds himself fired. He then decides to take his revenge against the works by opening the valves to the storage vats and their interconnecting pipes, flooding the area and sewers with gasoline and chemicals. It doesn't take long for this act of petty vandalism to start a fire, which starts a chain reaction that causes massive explosions at the refinery, destroying it and spreading a mushroom-cloud of flame that soon engulfs the entire metropolis. The drama focuses on a newly built hospital which, like the refinery and all civic buildings that went up during the mayor's crooked administration, is shoddily built and poorly equipped where the head doctor, Frank Whitman (Barry Newman), and his staff treat thousands of casualties from the fire while the city fire chief Risley (Henry Fonda) keeps in constant contact with the fire companies fighting a losing battle against the fires, and Maggie Grayson (Ava Gardner), an alcoholic reporter, sees it as her chance to make it nationwide with her coverage of the story of the "city on fire".

Following a grueling day of work, firefighter Jeremy Thomas Coleman and his co-workers contemplate ending the day with a case of 35-year-old Scotch. When Jeremy enters a convenience store to buy snacks, he witnesses the clerk and his son being brutally murdered at the hands of Hagan, an Aryan Brotherhood crime boss. After Jeremy narrowly escapes with his life, police detective Mike Cella, whose old partner was murdered by Hagan while they pursued him in a different case, sees an opportunity to bring justice. Hagan is arrested and Jeremy identifies him in a line up; however, Hagan demonstrates that he knows full well that Jeremy is behind the two-way mirror by reciting Jeremy's full name, address and social security number.
