Little from the Fish Shop (Czech: Malá z rybárny) is a Czech animated film directed by Jan Balej. It tells the story of the fish king and his family, who are forced to move from the sea and set up a fish shop. The youngest daughter, Little, then falls in love with a human. The film is loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen's story "The Little Mermaid". It uses puppets animated in stop motion.
The film was produced through Miracle Film with co-production support from companies in Slovakia and France. It received eight million Czech crowns from the Czech State Cinematographic Fund, 90,000 euro from the Slovak Audiovisual Fund and 250,000 euro from Eurimages. The full budget corresponded to 1.5 million euro. Principal photography took 410 days. The film is set to be released in 2015.

The film is a modern interpretation of Andersen's fairy tales. 6-year-old Alice lives with her mother and grandmother near the sea and waits for the return of her father. Alice dreams of becoming a ballerina and going to ballet school, but it does not work out. Alice notices that her mother is having an affair with their neighbor. Walking in on them having sex she shouts: "Traitor! Go to hell!", and in retaliation, she burns down the house. After the eclipse of the sun, Alice stops talking. Alice is then sent to a school for mentally retarded children, where she discovers an ability to fulfill her desires, such as making apples fall from the tree. After wishing to move away and causing a hurricane, she, her mother, and grandmother move to Moscow, having sold her grandmother's jewelry to pay for the tickets.

The movie opens in live action Denmark. From there, a narrator explains to the audience how Denmark is a popular tourist destination. He also states that many storytellers were born in Denmark, and the most famous one is Hans Christian Andersen. After explaining how this man wrote beautiful stories, the narrator finishes the explanations by mentioning that Andersen's most famous story, "The Little Mermaid," originated in Denmark. Widowed Classics Professor Thomas Bradley (Billy Zane) is about to lose his research grant studying ancient love spells at Oxford University. Peter-No-Tail is a cat who's born without a proper tail on a farm by the Swedish countryside. Due to economical difficulties, the farmer is forced to get rid of Peter. The farmer can't bring himself to drown the cat, so he sneaks Peter inside the car of a family who are renting a house close to the farm for their summer vacation. When the family finally reach their home in Uppsala, Sweden, they find Peter and decide to keep him. Without a tail, he becomes the talk of the town among the other cats and, especially Mike, who teases him cruelly. Mean Mike and his two companions, Bill and Bull, are notorious for the nasty tricks they like to play on other cats. Mike is currently trying to court Molly Silk-Nose, but his rough and silly approach does not impress her, since she becomes interested in the kind and gentle Peter. An African magician (der afrikanische Zauberer) conjures up a flying horse, which he shows to the Caliph. When the magician refuses to sell it for any amount of gold, the Caliph offers any treasure he has. The magician chooses Dinarsade, the Caliph's daughter, to her great distress.
