Lucía is a 1968 Cuban black-and-white drama film directed by Humberto Solás, and written by Julio García Espinosa and Nelson Rodríguez. It was the winner of the Golden Prize and the Prix FIPRESCI at the 6th Moscow International Film Festival in 1969.
The film is a period piece, told in three stories in different moments of Cuban history (the Cuban war of independence, the 1930s and the 1960s), all as seen through the eyes of a different woman, each named Lucía.
Synopsis
Trois destins de femmes cubaines aux prénoms identiques, à trois périodes historiques distinctes, ou l'évolution de la condition féminine dans la plus grande île des Antilles. La première Lucía, issue d'une famille de la bourgeoisie coloniale, s'éprend d'un bel Espagnol, déjà marié dans son pays. En découvrant cette réalité, celle-ci en perd la raison. Nous sommes au moment de la guerre d'indépendance contre l'Espagne (1895). La deuxième Lucía (cette fois de classe moyenne) s'engage aux côtés d'un révolutionnaire dans le combat contre la dictature de Gerardo Machado (1932). Dernière partie du triptyque : durant les premières années de la Révolution cubaine, Lucía est cette fois-ci une ouvrière agricole souffrant du machisme de son conjoint dans une société socialiste défendant officiellement l'égalité des sexes.Actors

La Havane, à la fin des années 1970. Teresa, mère de trois enfants, est chef d'équipe dans une usine textile. Elle est également déléguée syndicale et médiatrice culturelle. Ses multiples responsabilités sont difficilement conciliables avec une vie de famille traditionnelle. Elle doit donc affronter les récriminations incessantes de son époux. Fourteen-year-old Maria Antonia Josephina Johanna Habsburg (Kirsten Dunst) is the beautiful, charming, and naive archduchess of Austria, youngest of Empress Maria Theresa's (Marianne Faithfull) daughters. In 1770, the only one left unmarried among her sisters, she is sent by her mother to marry the Dauphin of France, the future Louis XVI of France (Jason Schwartzman), to seal an alliance between the two rival countries. Marie Antoinette travels to France, relinquishing all connections with her home country, including her pet Pug "Mops", and meets the King Louis XV of France (Rip Torn) and her future husband, Louis Auguste. The two arrive at the Palace of Versailles, which was built by the King's great-grandfather. They are married at once, and are encouraged to produce an heir to the throne as soon as possible; but the next day it is reported to the king that "nothing happened" on the wedding night.

A poison-gas attack on a Kolkata Metro Rail compartment kills the passengers on board. Two years later Vidya Bagchi (Vidya Balan), a pregnant software engineer, arrives in Kolkata from London during the Durga Puja festivities in search of her missing husband, Arnab Bagchi. A police officer, Satyoki "Rana" Sinha (Parambrata Chatterjee), offers to help. In 1558, the Roman Catholic Queen Mary (Kathy Burke) dies of a cancerous tumour in her uterus, leaving her Protestant half-sister Elizabeth (Cate Blanchett) as queen. Elizabeth had previously been jailed for a supposed conspiracy to murder Mary but has now been freed for her coronation. The film shows Elizabeth being courted by suitors, including Henry, Duc d'Anjou (Vincent Cassel), the future King Henry III of France and Poland, whom she rejects, and urged by William Cecil, 1st Baron Burghley (Richard Attenborough) to marry, which, as he states, would secure her throne. Instead, she has a secret affair with her childhood sweetheart, Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester (Joseph Fiennes). The affair is, however, no secret from Cecil, who makes it clear that a monarch has no private life. Elizabeth deals with various threats to her reign, including Thomas Howard, 4th Duke of Norfolk (Christopher Eccleston); her Catholic cousin, Mary, Queen of Scots, who conspires to have her murdered; Mary's mother, Mary of Guise (Fanny Ardant), who brings French troops into Scotland to attack Elizabeth's forces when they invade.
