Madhyanam Hathya (Afternoon Murder) is a 2004 Telugu language Indian crime thriller film directed by Ram Gopal Varma. The soundtrack of the film was arranged by shailendra swapnil. The film was remade in Hindi as My Wife's Murder.

Synopsis

A Police Inspector (Bhanuchander) is assigned to investigate the case of the dead woman whose body is recovered from a lake. The cop checks if this matter can be linked with a missing persons' report filed by a film editor Ravi kumar J. D. Chakravarthy and his father-in-law. The dead woman is identified as Lakshmi (Aamani), Ravi's nagging and abusive wife, whom Ravi kills and packs the dead body in a carton box and dumps the box into a river in the city's outskirts.

Mumbai is in the midst of a turf war between two gangs, collectively referred to as the Mumbai underworld when Satya (J.D Chakravarthy), a man without a past, comes to the city looking for employment. While waiting tables at the local dance bar, he gets involved in a scuffle with Jagga (Jeeva), bag man for dreaded don Guru Narayan (Raju Mavani). Jagga takes his revenge by getting Satya arrested on false charges of pimping. In jail, Satya clashes with yet another member of Mumbai's mafia, underworld don Bhiku Mhatre (Manoj Bajpai), who is in prison pending trial for the murder of a prominent film producer. Mhatre, pleased with Satya's bravado, extends a hand of friendship and arranges for his release as well as accommodation. With Mhatre's help, Satya avenges himself by gunning down Jagga in the very same dance bar and joins Mhatre's gang.

The film begins with the brutal murder of a Mumbai man named John by a group of Gangsters led by ruthless Kingpin Bappu Ganesh (Upendra Limaye) who terrorizes the slums of Mumbai striking fear into the heart of slum-dwellers. As time goes on, Babbu becomes more and more powerful, until he manages to seize power from the Government of Maharashtra and make himself Chief Minister of the state. He gets the people of Dharavi Slum in Mumbai together and forms a rebellion against Bappu promising that he will avenge his deceased parents and kill Bappu.

Malli (Jagapathi Babu) is a cop though he is an orphan, DIG Viswanath (Pradeep Rawat) brings him up like his own son and makes him an undercover police officer and hides his identity in a database. However, to nab an international mafia gang led by Daddy (Mahesh Manjrekar), Viswanath sends Malli in undercover to the mafia gang and the latter turns a trusted worker for Daddy. He almost believes Malli as his right hand. With the help of Malli, Viswanath and his team tries to corner Daddy and his gang, but could not arrest them due to lack of evidence. Malli falls in love with a Dr.Mahalakshmi (Mamta Mohandas). He takes him to his ailing mother who was in the hospital. At this juncture, Daddy reveals that his person was in the police department when he is cornered by Viswanath's team without evidence. Chandu (J. D. Chakravarthy), who is also a cop was raised by Daddy. Chandu is in love with his new neighbor Satya (Madhurima Tuli). Chandu is the one who was helping Daddy's gang. At the same time, Viswanath also tells Daddy that his man was also with Daddy's gang. So both the teams break their heads to find out the black sheep. But they could not do so. Malli once visits the hospital and doctors tell him that he should keep his mother happy always. Malli reveals his identity but is mother did not believe it. To prove his words correct, Malli tells Viswanath to visit his mother once. At the same time, Daddy's gang attacks the building and in the melee, Viswanath dies. After a few days, Chandu, in order to escape from the blackmailing tactics of Daddy, shoots him to death in an encounter. Chandu's still evil. Malli realizes that Chandu was working for Daddy. Malli proves that Chandu's evil. Malli also proves that he's an undercover police officer. One of the officers kills Chandu. Malli's mother gets released from the hospital. Prasad wants Malli to go undercover again. This time, Malli's going undercover in Pakistan.

Phoonk is based upon the concept of black magic. The plot starts with a man returning home late night. He passes through the graveyard; on the way to home and he finds a ghost mistaken for a woman and follows her. He is killed by a group of ghosts. Scene moves to a happily living couple Murali and Sindhu (Jayasudha), who lives with their 3 years old son Chinni (Master Ravi Chandra Padmala) and Sindhu's sister Mahi (Maheswari). They plan to buy an estranged new farm house, which is near to graveyard. Sindhu's sister Mahi (Maheswari) always roams with her boyfriend Narsing (J. D. Chakravarthy). The problem comes when Sindhu's son starts making imaginary friends in their new home. It is later revealed that his "imaginary friends" are ghosts. Sequence of events happens showing the essence of ghosts in the house. Things become much worsen when Chinni will become prey to the ghosts. Sindhu sees the ghost of Chinni and feels that he is still alive. In the meantime, Narsing once while waiting for Mahi in the night near the graveyard road, mistakes Ghost to mahi. However, he survives from there. Later he comes to know from his friends that a builder built the farm house on the land of graveyard. Narsing understands that Mahi's family is in big trouble. He warns Mahi to move away from that house immediately. But Mahi being from an atheist family doesn't cares about his words. The ghosts continues to kill the family members one after the another. At last, Mahi and Narsing tries to escape from the ghosts but when they return home, they find that all the protagonists became ghosts . The final scene shows Mahi and Narsing are about to be surrounded by ghosts and left with no way to escape.

Anu Malhotra and Siddharth Mishra (Sidhu) are in love with each other and would like to get married. Anu is ready to inform her parents about her future life-partner, but everything is put on hold, as the family decides to go out on a group safari-like expedition. Siddharth decides to go incognito also. The group gets to view wildlife from fairly close distances. Tragedy strikes when the group (except Sidhu) is kidnapped by the Bandit Durga Narayan Choudhary and his gang. The bandits commit atrocities on the kidnapped people and finally behead one of the women in order to terrorize the government and extract ransom as well as release of one of their men who is in police custody. Once their demands are met, the bandits release remaining hostages, except Anu, whom the chief Durga Narayan Choudhary has started liking. This is unacceptable by his girlfriend Bali, the only female bandit of the gang. When Sidhu not find Anu among the released hostages, he sends the illegal arms supplier Dorai to request Durga Narayan Choudhary for Anu's release. He secretly follows Dorai and finally reaches Anu. In the ensuing commotion, he is able to run away with her, with the bandits in their pursuit. They keep searching their way out of the dense forest. Meanwhile the goons started to reduce in numbers as they get shot one by one during repeated police encounters. Finally, Durga is the only one left. Still mad about Anu, he searches for her. He is about to take Anu away once more but is intercepted by Commander Shivraj, whom he eventually murders, but finally Sidhu kills Durga and re-unites with Anu and the movie ends on a happy note.
