Madly Bangalee is a Bengali 2009 rock musical film directed by Anjan Dutt. During his previous film "Bong Connection" shot in Houston, Director Anjan Dutt received lot of help and support from Houston filmmaker San Banarje who arranged for the film's American cast and crew and saved the film. During this period, Anjan Dutt became a self-proclaimed fan of San Banarje and while creating this movie, "Madly Bangalee" where he named the protagonist "San Banarje" and played the role himself as a true fan of the young, talented filmmaker San Banarje
Synopsis
Madly Bangalee is a Bengali rock band that inspires the film’s title. They rehearse in a dowdy garage of Kolkata, owned by Bobby (Lew Hilt), who owns Bobby’s Garage. Four young boys with stardust in their eyes practise their numbers not knowing what they are really aiming at. But the garage is under threat from a South Kolkata don Baburam (Chandan Sen). One morning, an elderly man, San (Anjan Dutt), arrives from "America and Paris." Baaji, (Sumit) the drummer who is a Muslim had to drop out of school. He escapes from the trap of turning a terrorist like his older brother Sultan. He later becomes a police officer who bashes up everyone who tries to bribe him. Neon (Tanaji) plays the bass guitar but, sucked into the world of drugs, he disappears from the face of the earth with his guitar. Pablo, lead singer, lead guitarist and lyricist, leaves for the US and the group breaks up. Bobby dies.Actors

Anjan Dutt, Amyt Datta, Lew Hilt, Nondon Bagchi, all in their mid-50's are members of a successful Bangla-band. They go for a show in North Bengal where Ranjana performs a small opening salutation. Anjan Dutt asks Ranjana (Parno Mittra) to come and meet him in Kolkata and promises to help her in recording her solo. Once in Kolkata, Ranjana stays at Anjan's house with him and his housekeeper, Kanchan Mullick. One night Anjan tries to seduce Ranjana but due to too much drinking and he faints allowing Ranjana to run. But she stays and nourishes him. This changes Anjan's attitude towards her and he teaches her music.

A family drama based on two families belonging to the polar opposite Bengali and Marwari communities, the film centers on childhood friendship, a probable wedding and above all the triumph of young love. Pashupati Ghosh, the patriarch of the Bengali family, lives gregariously but still in denial of his waning wealth, whereas his neighbour Praveen Agarwal, although he has amassed a great deal of wealth over the course of years, lives a miserly life. Differences of opinions, scheming family members, shifting cultural dynamics and a secret love that has blossomed despite of all odds forms the crux of this film, the love between Saban and Arjun is one where Chana plays the messenger delivering clandestine notes from one lover to another. Drama unfolds when both the families come to know about Saban, Arjun, and their plan to elope. Just when Saban is to be married to a U.S.-based computer engineer Niky. Underlying tensions erupt and bubble to the surface, each family blames the other. Amidst this entire ruckus, Saban is locked inside her room and attempts suicide. She is rushed to the hospital where they refuse to let Arjun visit her. On the other hand, Pushupati is constantly threatened by the local goon Krishnagopal Das to vacate his property. Navin the brother of Praveen Agarwal who has had his eyes set on the property for a long time is carrying out this plan. Arjun intervenes and is mortally injured; he is rushed to the I.C.U. where immediate blood is needed. Pashupati willingly steps in to donate blood and their blood groups miraculously match each other. In the process, Pashupati saves Arjun's life. The two families eventually unite and it seems that a wedding is in store after all.
