Mai Mai Shinko and the Millennium-Old Magic) is a Japanese animated film based on Nobuko Takagi's novelization of her autobiography, Maimai Shinko. It was produced by the animation studio Madhouse, distributed by Shochiku, and directed by Sunao Katabuchi.
The film debuted at the Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland on August 15, 2009. It was released in Japan on November 21, and ultimately had a rare seven-month run at the cinemas.
The movie's plot is partially based on research on Sei Shōnagon's The Pillow Book.
Synopsis
Dans le Japon de l'après-guerre, à Suo, une ancienne capitale vieille de mille ans, au printemps 1955, une petite fille de neuf ans nommée Shinko s'amuse à imaginer le monde tel qu'il était il y a mille ans, grâce aux histoires de son grand-père qu'elle affectionne. Une nouvelle élève timide et réservée, Kiiko Shimazu, est transférée en cours d'année dans son école. Les deux fillettes vont se lier d'amitié et partager d'inoubliables expériences, grâce à la Magie Millénaire.Actors

The film is something of an epilogue; set in 2005, 60 years after the war, it opens at a crematorium in Kobe, just after the aunt, Hisako Sawano has died at the age of 95. The funeral director comments how a person who lived through the Meiji, Taisho, Showa and Heisei eras had finally gone to rest. After the funeral, Seita's and Setsuko's cousin, who is now a grandmother herself, begins to tell her granddaughter about the family's struggle to survive during the Second World War, and the emotional scars that it left.

In the year 1866, a mysterious sea-monster is hunting the depths of the oceans and rising only to attack and destroy innocent ships at a cost of many lives. Experts around the world are trying to discover the identity of the monster and possibly destroy it before even more lives are lost. Marine expert Professor Pierre Aronnax, his faithful companion Conseil and harpoonist Ned Land, set out aboard the Abraham Lincoln from Long Island in search of said monster. The monster attacks, and the three companions are thrown overboard and the ship's crew declares them lost. Their lives are saved as they are held above water by the monster, which they discover to be a modern submarine, named the Nautilus. Inside, they meet the submarine's captain, Captain Nemo, and his faithful crew.

Inspector Zenigata travels to Castle Dracula to confirm reports of the execution of his long-time nemesis, Arsène Lupin III. However, the body he finds is a decoy that is being used by another Lupin to escape from the castle. Zenigata travels to Egypt, believing that Lupin will raid the Pyramids based on prior thefts of reputed immortality-granting objects. His prediction proves accurate, but Lupin and his partners Daisuke Jigen and Goemon Ishikawa XIII escape with the Philosopher's Stone. Crysta is a fairy with a curious nature living in FernGully, a pristine rainforest free from humans. The Phantom Thief Kid sends a heist notice, warning of another heist. The police deduce that his next target is a recently discovered Fabergé egg, which Suzuki Modern Art Museum in Osaka will display on August 22. The night of the heist, Kid steals the egg and flies off, and Conan and Heiji give chase. However, in the middle of the chase, an unknown assailant shoots Kid in the right eye, and Kid apparently falls into the sea to his death. L'histoire commence en 1882 à Saint-Pétersbourg, en Russie. Sacha est une jeune fille russe de l'aristocratie. Son grand-père Oloukine, qu'elle admire et aime beaucoup, est un grand explorateur qui a disparu à bord de son brise-glace, le Davaï, parti en expédition scientifique à la conquête du pôle Nord. Le tsar reproche au défunt grand-père de Sacha d'avoir perdu le Davaï, un brise-glace à la coque extrêmement résistante qu'il avait fait construire à grands frais. Il a promis une récompense d'un million de roubles à qui retrouverait le Davaï, mais les recherches menées pour retrouver le brise-glaces n'ont rien donné. Un jour, Sacha découvre par hasard un feuillet manuscrit de la main d'Oloukine indiquant qu'il n'a pas emprunté le chemin que l'on croyait pour gagner le pôle nord : il n'est pas passé par l'est mais par l'ouest. Le soir même, les parents de Sacha donnent un bal où est invitée la haute société pétersbourgeoise, dont le prince Tomsky, qui vient d'être nommé nouveau conseiller scientifique du tsar. Ce bal doit être le premier où Sacha sera présentée à la haute société. La jeune fille a écouté à la dérobée une conversation du prince et sait que celui-ci déteste Oloukine. Elle accepte néanmoins d'ouvrir le bal avec lui, mais, pendant et après la danse, elle tente de le convaincre que les secours n'ont pas cherché le Davaï au bon endroit. Le prince Tomsky en prend prétexte pour faire un scandale et humilier publiquement Sacha et ses parents. La famille de la jeune fille tombe alors en disgrâce.
