Maindhan is a 1994 Tamil drama film directed by Pugazhendhi. The film features Selva, Nirosha and Napoleon in lead roles. The film, produced by K. N. Natarajan, had musical score by Deva and was released on 3 July 1994.
Synopsis
Ramasamy Mudaliar (Kalyan Kumar) is a village chief who follows Gandhian principles while his son Jeeva (Selva) is a jobless youth. Lakshmi (Nirosha) is in love with her cousin Jeeva. Velayudam Pillai (Napoleon), a rich villager, plans to buy the village farmers' grounds and to build there a liquor factory. Ramasamy Mudaliar try to stop him and he is subsequently killed. Jeeva transforms into a responsible citizen and decides to take revenge on the selfish Velayudam Pillai.Actors

Gopi and Hari, two unemployed graduates, share a room and live together in Madras. While Gopi is looking for a job, Hari aspires to become a music composer in the film industry. They both manage to make ends meet with the help of their friends. Their neighbour is Prabhu, a college-going student who spends all the time in smoking, painting and singing. The film details the life of Periyar right from a childhood to his marriage to Nagammal to his pilgrimage to Kashi which changed his life where he understands the cruelty of the Hindu Caste System that only Brahmins are welcomed and he was refused meals at choultries which exclusively fed Brahmins forbidding other Hindu castes. Having starved severely, Periyar found no other better way than to enter a choultry disguises himself with the appearance of a Brahmin wearing a thread on his bare chest but it is found out and is disgusted with life in Kashi. Periyar returns and joins his father's business and later becomes the Chairman of the Erode Municipality. Later, which he resigns from this post and joins the freedom struggle. He becomes the President of Congress party of Madras Presidency. Later he quits the Congress party and joins the Justice Party. He goes on to format the DK. His role in the Anti-Hindi agitation and Vaikom struggle. His second marriage and the formation of the DMK. It covers his entire life till death.

Anjalai, a village woman gets married to a drunkard Manickam, with a hope of changing his behavior post marriage. But Manickam continues drinking and goes to a level where he steals Anjalai's jewels before losing his job. During this time, his mother dies in a fire accident after which he vows not to drink anymore. Meanwhile, Manickam falls sick after damaging his liver as a result of excessive drinking. In order to safeguard his life, Anjalai collects money by begging in the streets and donation from the chief minister of the state. Manickam is sent to the United States for treatment. When the couple return to India after Manickam gets cured, he starts drinking again and gets addicted to it. Unable to tolerate his change in behaviour, Anjalai ends her life. This forces all the women in the village join together to protest against alcohol.

Pandian and Arun are police officers. Pallavi is a drug addict who cannot stop her habit even though her brother Arun pleads. One day Arun locks her up, but she dies from withdrawal. Devastated Arun decides to take revenge on Mohandas, the kingpin of drug mafia, but Mohandas kills him in an airport restroom. Sudha's young brother happens to watch this murder but is terrified to make this public. Pandian who is in-charge of this case zeroes in Sudha and her brother as witnesses, but she refuses. But when Madhuri pleads her help, she decides to help Pandian, but now Pandian is abducted by Mohandas's men and forcefully turn him to a drug addict. The climax reveals whether Pandian nab the drug lord and complete the revenge of his friend Arun.
