Melissa P. is a 2005 erotic drama film directed by Luca Guadagnino. It is based on Melissa Panarello's semi-autobiographical diary novel, 100 colpi di spazzola prima di andare a dormire (One Hundred Strokes of the Brush Before Bed) which focuses on the narrator's teenage sex life. María Valverde stars as the protagonist, alongside Geraldine Chaplin in the Italian-Spanish production. The film was released on 18 November 2005 in Italy, where it topped the box office.

Synopsis

Melissa (Valverde) is a shy 15-year-old virgin who feels increasingly distant from her family. Her father works on a foreign oil rig and her mother (Sacci) is too preoccupied with her housewife persona to notice that something is wrong with her daughter. The only person that senses Melissa's discomfort is her grandmother, Elvira (Chaplin). However, Melissa feels completely isolated when Elvira is carted off to a retirement home.

Eight-year-old Ana, stoic and quiet approaches her father's bedroom where she hears a woman in bed with her father, confessing her love for him. Descending the stairs, she spies an attractive middle-aged woman, hastily dressing and rushing from the bedroom to the front door of the darkened house. The woman and Ana exchange glances but do not speak. Once the woman has left, Ana enters her father's bedroom and finds the man dead, apparently from a heart attack. As if not really understanding the gravity of the situation, Ana unflappably takes away a half-full glass of milk, which she carries to the kitchen and cleans. In the kitchen, she sees her mother, who chides her for being up so late and sends her off to bed.
