The film opens to Akshay (Shankar Nag), having esaped from jail, being chased by the police when accidentally runs into the house of Sudha (Vanitha Vasu), a high school classmate of his. He hides in a closet when Inspector Kaury (Avinash) knocks the door. As he hides, he finds the corpse of her husband, Rithwik Kumar (Devaraj) dumped there. The officer breaks the news to Sudha that the plane by which her husband Kumar travelled to Calcutta crashed, killing all the passengers. She appears shocked and breaks down in front of the officer. After he leaves, she reveals to Akshay that she killed her husband and confides in him. He joins her in disposing the corpse in an abandoned well by her estate.

Sub-inspector Galappa Doddamani stumbles at Sathya's filming location in a forest, of the film CBI Shankar. The president of the local Zilla Parishad Narayana Gowda (Vajramuni) reaches the spot with a businessman Amar (Devaraj), and grant the crew permission to continue filming. Following Gowda's inappropriate behavior with Tara (as herself), the film's female lead, at a party hosted by the film producer, she storms out of the party and walks out of the film. Sathya, also the film's director, persists Amar's sister Asha (Suman Ranganathan) to replace her, to which an initially hesitant Asha agrees in her brother, Amar's absence, who had other plans for her.

Unnikrishan (Vijayakumar), a simple, innocent, easy going chap joins Government Law College. He along with first year students are ragged by the seniors under the leadership of Pappan (Ashokan). Harikrishnan (Mohanlal), an immigrant in Mumbai, who like many thousands of immigrants is busy struggling to make ends meet. He shares a room with a group of Malayali guys, who too have their own personal problems and difficulties. The film begins with Harikrishnan witnessing the murder of a journalist, and is wanted by police to appear at an identification parade, which he does. Hari and his friends stay at a room in Kamathipura, which also homes the largest red lighted area in India. He accidentally meets Kiran (Geetha), a Telugu girl in the brothel, for whom he develops a soft feeling. In a short attempt to make money, Hari and friends starts making local hooch, which is supplied by Manikandan (Jagadish), their friend, who is also a taxi driver. Shekhar (Shankar), one among the guys falls in love with the sister of Mani, without the knowledge of anyone else.
