Synopsis
L'action du film se déroule entre septembre 1944 et janvier 1946. Dans l'est de la France, Nina tient ce qu'on appelle « une maison de l'espoir », ces maisons qui ont hébergé des jeunes juifs, pour la plupart orphelins. La fin de la guerre approche et on lui demande de s'occuper d'autres jeunes juifs rescapés du camp de Buchenwald. Ces enfants, qui ont vu les pires horreurs se dérouler devant leurs yeux se tournent vers une pratique religieuse plus intensive. Nina doit gérer et reconstruire ces vies brisées, tout en protégeant les enfants qui ont passé la guerre dans son orphelinat.Actors

Tsili a 12 ans en 1942. Ses parents ne l'aiment pas beaucoup et quand la guerre atteint leur village ils décident de partir en laissant à Tsili le soin de garder leur maison. In a Jewish ghetto in German-occupied Poland, a man named Jakob is summoned to the Gestapo office on a charge he broke the curfew. As the soldier who sent him there merely played a prank on him, he is released, but not before hearing a radio broadcast about the defeats of the German Army. As no one believes he went to the Gestapo and came out alive, Jakob makes up another tale, claiming he owns a radio – a crime punishable by death. In 1945, as a truckload of war survivors stops in front of an Amsterdam factory at the end of World War II, Otto Frank (Joseph Schildkraut) gets out and walks inside. After climbing the stairs to a deserted garret, Otto finds a girl's discarded glove and sobs, then is joined and comforted by Miep Gies (Dodie Heath) and Mr. Kraler (Douglas Spencer), factory workers who shielded him from the Nazis. After stating that he is now all alone, Otto begins to search for the diary written by his youngest daughter, Anne. Miep promptly retrieves the journal for Otto, and he receives solace reading the words written by his young daughter three years earlier.

In 1982, Ari Folman was a nineteen-year-old infantry soldier in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). In 2006, he meets with a friend from his army service period, who tells him of the nightmares connected to his experiences from the Lebanon War. Folman is surprised to find that he remembers nothing from that period. Later that night he has a vision from the night of the Sabra and Shatila massacre, the reality of which he is unable to clearly recall. In his memory, he and his soldier comrades are bathing at night by the seaside in Beirut under the light of flares descending over the city.

Solek (a nickname for Solomon, also called "Solly") and his family live in Nazi Germany. On the eve of Solek's bar mitzvah, Kristallnacht occurs. He escapes, naked, then hiding in a barrel. At night, he calls his acquaintance to bring him clothes from his house. She refuses, but throws him a leather jacket with a swastika band on its arm. He comes back home. His family is together at home, but his sister is killed by Nazis. The father, who was born in Łódź, Poland, decides to go back there.
