Widow Birdy Wemys (Todd) has become a devoted member of a fundamentalist fire-and-brimstone religious sect called The Brethren, led by the charismatic Minister (Magee). Birdy has turned her sizeable home over to the Brethren for use as a church and a recruiting ground, and her son Kenny (Beckley) has also fallen under their spell. Kenny is a troubled individual, dominated by his overbearing mother, introverted and socially inept. Cushing plays Sir John Rowan, a plastic surgeon whose young fashion model and fiancée’s face (Sue Lloyd) is badly disfigured in an accident, caused in part by a jealous rage of his. Rowan pledges to reverse Lynn's disfigurement, experimenting with laser technology to revive her skin, eventually coming up with a cure-all, a Frankensteinian transplantation of glands. Driven by combination of guilt and love, Rowan goes on a murder spree, killing young women in order to use their glands to restore his fiancée’s beauty. The couple goes off on holiday to a seaside cottage and all is fine until her face starts to show signs of deterioration. In need of more surgery and a new "donor" the couple tries to entice a young girl (Wendy Varnals) who they meet at the beach and take back to their cottage. Complications ensue, first because Rowan doesn't want to commit another murder, and then because this girl isn't what she seems to be., 1h35

At a point in the distant future, the inhabitants of Planet Earth have become divided into two factions who despise each other. In Beatland live the hip and trendy people who have long hair, dress in turtlenecks, jeans and sunglasses and listen to cool beat music. Their counterparts on Ballad Isle keep their hair short and tidy, wear button-down shirts and pressed slacks or floral dresses and twinsets, and listen exclusively to crooners. A musical competition is staged annually between the two sides, overseen by the neutral and powerful record company executive Mr. A&R (Thornton). For the rest of the year they regard each other with suspicion and antipathy, although they are not above sneaking into each other's territory to steal musical ideas.
