The film skips through 35 years in the life of Max Youngman (Poulson), following him through his courtship and marriage to Lyla (Weixler), also the object of affection for his best friend Sal (Offerman). Never seeming to age, Max and the adult characters closest to him stumble in and out of comically misguided relationships and happenstances that are seamlessly woven together by animated vignettes provided by Bob Sabiston (A Scanner Darkly)., 1h45

Donovan plays Thomas, an amnesiac trying to put his life back together, who meets an ex-nun (Huppert) writing pornographic stories. The scenes of overt violence were new territory for Hartley, but the film was still in his usual deadpan and dialogue-driven style., 1h51

The film follows the story of Owen Wagner (played by Spencer Treat Clark), who survives a truck accident that kills his best friend while growing up in a mining town in West Virginia. Following the accident he moves to live with his father (played by Andrew Wilson) in Yellowstone National Park, where he is in charge of the wolf-reintroduction program. The film is a coming-of-age story that focuses significantly on the natural beauty of Owen's new found surroundings. Zelnick has said of the film that, "Druid Peak is a coming of age story about a troubled teenage boy who finds a home for himself tracking wolves in Wyoming. I always call it a coming of age story with a conservation twist. It’s a story about a kid who is given a second chance in a place as wild as he is.

At a loading dock in Cleveland, Ohio in 1937, supervisor Mr. Gant welcomes a new worker, Lincoln Dombrowsky (Frank McRae). Gant tells him the job requirements and pay rules. He'll be paid for working 8 hours and if he has to work overtime, he still gets paid only for 8 hours. If he drops any of the merchandise, the cost comes directly out of his pay. These are examples of unfair working practices faced by the laborers. Later Dombrowsky drops a few carts of tomatoes, which is taken out of his pay; another worker is fired for helping him collect the fallen merchandise. Johnny Kovak (Sylvester Stallone), another worker resentful of mistreatment, leads a riot. Afterward, the workers go to the office of Boss Andrews. Kovak believes he negotiates a deal for the workers, but the next day he and his friend Abe Belkin (David Huffman) are told they are fired.
